Default Car and Driver '08 Impression

http://www.caranddriver.com/autoshow...nd-h2-sut.html

Check out this link. The reviewer didn't sound too terribly thrilled about the new features of the '08... I like it!!

(He claims 11.5 MPG with the new engine... What do you think?)

Considering the current engine produces about 13 MPG, I would say my estimate would be in the 15-16 MPG average range. Though somehow those testers ALWAYS manage to produce low MPG ratings, which rarely match those of real world drivers IMHO.

Actually, I'm going to say the new MPG ratings will probably be something like 12 city/18 highway MPG

18 highway is what my dad's Explorer gets! If HUMMER could obtain that kinda mileage, my chances of getting an H2 would increase 10-fold!

Good luck with those H2 mileage estimates, won't translate to real life.

Hahaha. I don't think those numbers are impossible.

I went from a ford f150 to the H2, and the H2 gets better fuel milage and is 10 times faster than the 5.4 triton. Ford has some real issues with poor fuel milage motors, including thier diesel line. sorry /rant

I would never have guessed that... An F-150? Do you mean a 350?

Default Approach & Departure Angles?

Hey guy's, is their ad correct regarding the approach and departure angle's on the new 2008's?

According to my knowledge this is what is should be:

Approach angle: 40.8? (coil) - 42.8? (air)
Departure angle: 39.6? (coil) - 38.1? (air) (40? with ERH)
Ramp brake-over angle: 25.8? (coil) - 27.5? (air)

Have that angles changed that much on the newer model?

Curious...

Nope, I had a F150 King ranch super crew with a 5.5 foot bed. Never got over 12mpg with it..... it was SLOW but fairly comfrtable..... Another guy has a ext cab at work, he has the same issue...

What's ERH? I see it here (http://www.elcova.com/h2/specs.html), but can't figure out what it means.

As I've said before, it's impossible that the air increases the approach angle and decreases the departure angle. It would HAVE to be the opposite by all laws of geometry. When you air up, you're raising the rear end by pivoting it on the front suspension. That would increase the departure angle and slightly decrease the approach angle. It would also increase the breakover angle.

Does it mean "extended rear height"? If so, it then makes sense on the departure angle, but not the increased approach angle.

Not a bad review on the H2 or the H3 Alpha.

Tire pressure monitors will be real nice. I assume they will be like the ones in my vette that read out the individual pressures on the dash. Aslo, dosent the H3 Alpha have a better front diff? They said all is the same mechanically execpt the engine.

They couldnt find too much bad to say and you know they wanted to. Thats good. Nice cheap shot with the "omega" comment in the H3 review.
