DFW Service Help
Does anyone have any suggestions on a reputable shop, other than the stealerships, to do basic maintenance.
I live a couple of miles from Sewell Hummer of Plano, the convenience is great but I feel like I have been raped, my ass hurts every time I get my car out of the shop.

Re: DFW Service Help
I've bought a dozen new vehicles in the last 20 years. With a greasegun an oilcan and a couple jugs of oil I rarely went to dealer. If you keep records of oil changes etc your covered for major items. I probably only returned to dealer once for every 2 vehicles. I've even done alighnments with flat garage floor bubble level ,a couple straight edges and a tape measure . Course a full set of tools and a decent size garage helps. Regards The Rebel

Try Classic in Grapevine. I purchased my H2 from them and always received A+ service.

Re: DFW Service Help
Sewell in Plano and Dallas is the biggest ripoff in the business! Avoid them at all cost!

Re: DFW Service Help
Unforunately, I don't have the garage, the cool set of tools, nor the time to spend on DIY projects.
I have 78K miles, factory warranty is no longer. I will need more than just an oil change in the near future. I have already had to replace the bearings and an ac leak that has cost me a pretty penny at Sewell Hummer of Plano.
I would love to save the money and DIY but thats not an option.
Someone must know a good mechanic in this area. Otherwise I will have to try Classic Hummer and see if they are any better.

Re: DFW Service Help
I think any good garage should be able to do the work, afterall parts are available aftermarket and over the counter to anyone --but I guess your point is good knowledgeable work at reasonable cost which my experience every shop doesn't have as priority one. Sorry I guess for all of us. Regards The Rebel

Re: DFW Service Help
I use the local tech school. I know the teacher, and he's a great mechanic...also gives the kids a chance to work on a "nicer" vehicle... I supply the parts, and just donate some cash for the work...

What the heck happened at Sewell? I've always heard good things about them.

Re: DFW Service Help
Sewell's customer service is very good. Their philosphy is that people will pay a premium for customer service. They have been great to deal with when it comes to warranty work. It is the non-warranty work that ends up being highly over-priced.
That is my dilema, my factory warranty is no longer and I no longer want to pay dealership prices. I was hoping that there was a non-dealership mechanic in the area that had a decent amount of experience working on H2's and would be familiar with the nuances and the typical issues that face H2 owners.
That is all.

Re: DFW Service Help
Sewell charges approx double what something should cost, rather it's service or something out of their parts dept.
Something has also changed in the Service dept where it takes the techs several times to get something done right.

Re: DFW Service Help
I have been using Kane's automotive on Business 121 just east of I-35E for years. Terry Kane is the owner and you will deal directly with him. He will do a excellent job for a good price. He is the only one who gets to touch my vehicles, including my '68 mustang.
His phone number is 972-221-6287. Let him know where you got his name!
Good luck! I guarantee Terry will take good care of you.

Re: DFW Service Help
4 Wheel parts in Plano does a good job at 1/3 the price of Sewell. A lot of people use them so you will have to make an appointment. They do good work though.
