It is almost tire time!

Ok so, my BFG's are about gone at close to 50K miles. If I go with 18x9 Rockstars and 35x12.5 tires will my truck sit higher than it does now on factory 315.70-17 tires? I have to watch the clearance for parking garages. It seems that the rockstars don't come any smaller than an 18" wheel and I believe that I can only get the Mud Terrain BFG's in an 18" tire and not the All Terrain that I have now. I guess I could always stay stock but was trying to customize without changing tire brand/model or ride height.

WOW 50,000 on your original BFGs! THAT'S GREAT! I've got 30,000 on mine and they are showing the wear - I'm thinking new tires probably in another 10,000 miles.

I believe the stock size tires are just a tad shy of 35" (something like 34.7-34.8") so you should have no clearance issues over the equivilant of 1/4 of an inch difference.

As for tires you really need to consider the conditions you will be driving in, if your mostly "on road" then the Mud Terrains may not be the best choice as they will be noisy and likely wear quicker than the A/T's, mud tires are not usually the best in the snow either (if you live somewhere that gets snow/ice). Not sure if they make it in the size you are planning to purchase but I would also look at the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac..... I have talked to a few people who have them and read some good reviews. Bottom line is to buy the right tire for your intended driving purpose.

You might consider the Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain. They run extremely smooth and quiet for a mud terrain, and wear very well. I know many people who used to run the BFG MT, and have now switched to the Toyo. They wear much more even and sem to last much longer than the BFG. And they look awesome!

I have had these Mickey Thompson's for about six months and have been very happy with them. They are 35 12.50 x 17 and slightly larger than stock. I believe they have them in 18" also. I got them through 4wheel parts and was very happy with both service and price. (5) $1435.XX

I agree, my brother has the Toyo and they run really smooth.

I worked for a major NW tire dealer for 5 years, and saw all kinds of tires all the way through their life cycle. 50,000 seemed pretty easy for the Toyo MT's, and I had at least two guys who were getting 70,000 out of them on F350 Superduty trucks. Granted, regular rotations and proper inflation, alignment, shocks, etc. need to be kept in good order, and I am sure those guys drove pretty easy on them, (no burn outs, high speed corners...) but the point is, with proper care they are capable of phenominal mileage for a MT type tire.
