has anyone installed the locking chrome fuel door that comes as just as the cover only? the diameter is the same size as the black rubber and is held on by these little screws?

i have no idea how this goes on, my old one used the factory holes in the black plastic

any info would be great

Then loosen the small screws, or remove some if necessary from the new cover, and put black rim rim inside the screws. Tighten screws. The edges of the small screws hold the ccover on.

BTW, isn't your avatar supposed to bounce around sort of like this? You need to fix that.

I just bought one with the "little screws" (I'm beginning to think I got a little screwed!!) BUT in my case, I'm replacing the cheap dealer/factory chrome door set up....because I wanted one that locked. I think the dealer must replace the entire black plastic cup as part of that unit.............so it appears to me that I don't have the stock cup for the new door to grab onto with the little screws.

So, do I need to find a "stock" interior cup unit??

Sounds like you DO need the stock item... unless you would just rather glue it to the body.

I did silicone my "rim" beneath the screws, I wasn't sure that the screws would hold it over time. All in all, a very easy install -- especially if you know to TWIST the inner cup, rather than trying to pry the d*mn thing out!

  1. Take out the gas cap (as you do each time you fuel...)
  2. Grab the inside of the black plastic "rim" area surrounding the gas cap and twist counter-clockwise about 1/4 turn. (DON'T try to pry it out, or beat the h*ll out of it like I did before I knew it turned! )
  3. Take the screws out of the back side of the new chrome (or black) fuel door
  4. Set your "rim" upside down over the fuel door (note the "top" so your door will be straight...)
  5. Reinsert the screws and tighten to hold door to rim
  6. Replace into housing and twist clockwise to lock into place
  7. Reinsert the fuel cap
  8. DON'T lose the fuel door key!!!

beware of the chrome locking fuel door, i purchased one from the dealer as soon as i got the truck due to the fact that i wanted a locking cap, after 6 months the lock seized up and i need needle nose pliers to get the key to turn, dealer replaced it free, with a non locking cap and said they have had to replace every one they have sold and the company is out of businees, so now i got a locking cap on and the chrome cover it was a real piss off to use those pliers to get the fukker opened
