Re: anyone installed a camshaft on 6.0 ?
While I've yet to start modding the H2, i heavily modded the LS2 in my GTO. Same basic motor.
I'd get the long tube headers from stainless works. Quality product, and true longtubes are the only way to go. Shorty or mid length headers are leaving too much on the table for the $$ spent and time involved.
As for a cam, you have almost infinite choices. I would stay away from any of the "hot" cams from GM or any of the LS6 / Z06 cams for this application. They may make more HP up high in the rpm, but will kill your low end torque that you absolutely need in the H. Honestly just call Ed at flowtechinductions and tell him what you are looking to gain. He can set you up a custom grind and give you realistic expectations.
As for installing the cam. It's not bad, though from the look of it you may have to remove the radiator to get the cam in / out. With a new cam you should do a new LS2 / HD timing chain and gears, hardened pushrods, and you'll need better valve springs as well.
A new cam will benefit most from the supporting bolt ons. Long tube headers etc. And to make it all work, you'll need a good tune from a shop with either HPTuners or EFIlive. Handheld tuners won't cut it, and mail order stuff just can't do as well as a good tuner with access to the vehicle.
Oh, and a drastic change in cam will likely require a new torque convertor for the trans with a different stall.
A well thought out and properly tuned package on the LQ4 in the H2 will have make a beastly amount of power, but it isn't cheap, and the mod bug doesn't go away.
Just depends on what you're after and what you want to spend.
