A kid at my school has a forest green 96 H1 wagon. His engine recently blew, and he has no warranty, and is unwilling to get it rebuilt and is going to buy a Subaru STI. I was wondering how much it would cost to fix if I aquired the car from him.

Is it gas or diesel. If its gas a crate engine could be bought for around 2500.00. If its diesel the best place to buy the engine would be from Kennedy diesel, you can get a long block (but you will hae to salvage a bunch of crap off of the old engine) for about 3900.00, or you can get a new AMG manufactured drop in engine for 6200.00. The drop in is the way to fly, they give you everything including a new injector pump, which has been known to be problomatic on the HUMMER. Then of course you hvae to have it installed, a local shop by my house drops engines in for about 2500.00. If you can get the truck dirt cheap it wouldent be to bad, but if you have to pay for it the cash is gonna stack up REAL fast.

I can probably get the truck for under 10,000. The guy said he was just gonna scrap it. He drives a sweat car, but he's not the sharpest tool in the shed

Just buy it and pop in a Chevy 350CU. Easy to maintain, and you have the choice of going TBI or Carburated. You can get a pretty hopped up crate engine, or a mild blueprinted engine pretty cheap.
Good luck!
