4 wheel in the snow
Anyone notice the truck drives more stable on roads without the 4 wheel drive on? By not on i mean in all wheel like it normally is. When i put it in 4 wheel it seems like i slide more in turns and such. I supose this is cause theres more power going to the back wheels in 4 wheel and it kicks out a little or pushes the front a little insted of pulling around a turn.

mmm. First drive in 4Hi locked thru snow this morning. Didnt really notice. Also, I thought 4Hi unlock was about a 40/60 front/rear power split. i.e. more power to rear tires.

The way I know it to be is either 4 wheel, or 4H lock, or 4L lock. I never drove very fast with 4H lock on, but it does feel a bit more loose in the rear end when I do. Do you have a manual? I know when I turn off the stability it gets a little loose, but only when I goose it and crank the wheel. Otherwise I cant get this thing sideways. Probably one of the most stable vehicles I've driven

Me tinks if you do 4 wheel lock you are gonna feel some slide on snow as all the wheels are getting power be it 60/40 or what have you. So far I've just stayed in normal 4 wheel in the light snow we've had here with no traction or push steer or slide problems.

In 4H lock the t-case is locked and power is split 50/50 front and rear.
The slippage you feel is probably due the tires breaking traction when turning etc. The front wheels take a differnt path than the rear (different distances).

makes sense. If go in 4 hi lock the front tires break traction cause they cant spin faster than the rear. So it kicks the back out or pushes the front out. Its way more stable in 4 wheel no locks around turns. As far as going straigh i cant tell the differense. I supose it would be different if it was a lot of snow though.

I drive a lot in the snow. Slower driving, the traction control works great in 4 hi. If I pick up the pace, it goes to hell, the traction control makes the H3 understeer and I'll come close to blowing out the corner (yeah, the right thing would be to slow down but....) To go faster in the H3 or to have more fun in it, turn off the traction control to allow the rear end to come out so that you can steer with the throttle, it works wonderfully. I never had the rear end come all the way around, it drifts nicely and controllably with the throttle. Tons of fun (on deserted mountain snowy roads of course because no one else is up there!)

Agreed.
Turn off stabilatrac, and you won't notice it as much.
Notice that it is automatically disengaged in 4 Low lock.
