General Motors Engineering, in an effort to determine the root cause of catalytic converter damage, has determined that aftermarket alarm systems incorrectly installed in vehicles have the potential to cause misfire codes and damage to the converter. These alarm systems use a circuit interrupt which utilizes the ignition circuit on the vehicles.
These alarm systems utilize mechanical relays and normal vehicle movement can trigger these relays to engage and disengage the ignition circuit while the vehicle is in motion. These disruptions of the ignition circuit, which occur in milliseconds, may cause more fuel to be commanded. Over time, this dumping of fuel on and off again can cause misfire codes and ultimately damage the converter assembly.
Engineering could not identify any alarms that utilize solid state circuitry that would eliminate this concern. Because of this, it has been determined that all alarm systems must be routed through the starter circuit in order to avoid this condition.
Dealers must be aware of this issue and take note of the wiring on vehicles with alarm systems that come in for repair, particularly for catalytic converter damage that seem to have no known root cause.

with Uplevel Steering Wheel Audio Controls (RPO UK3)
The above listed vehicles, equipped with the Uplevel CD, Dual Play and ICDX radios, have a Source button on the steering wheel controls that enables the customer to select any radio band/source. Normally, all available radio band sources should be selectable using the steering wheel controls.
However, some of these radios may experience a situation where you may only be able to switch between AM and FM2 when using the steering wheel controls.
When you experience this situation, press the Band button on the radio a minimum of eight times. This should correct the situation and synchronize the steering wheel controls with the radio.

Important
Before disconnecting the BoseŽ amplifier for an audio system speaker diagnostic procedure, the 30 Amp Amplifier fuse must be removed from the Underhood Bussed Electrical Center (UBEC).
When diagnosing a condition of no audio from one or more channels, the 30 Amp Amplifier fuse must be removed from the UBEC before beginning any speaker/wire diagnosis.
Failure to remove the 30 Amp fuse from the UBEC can result in a damaged BoseŽ amplifier. When the wires are reconnected to the amplifier with the fuse in place, the resulting electrical surge can cause a failure of the BoseŽ amplifiers internal components.

Dealers should be aware that the power folding mirrors on the above vehicles may not be set in the full locked position due to movement during transport. It will be necessary for the dealer to cycle the power mirror switch on the driver's side door panel in order to fully implement the detent feature of these mirrors (the mirror housing must be fully retracted inboard and then extended to its outboard position to lock the mirror in place).
Some dealers and transport companies have manually placed these mirrors in the outward position, assuming they were fixed in place. If this is done, the mirrors could fold inward when the vehicle is at highway speeds. DO NOT replace these mirrors. You need only to cycle the power mirrors in and out by using the power mirror switch.

Condition
Some customers may comment that the rear window washer spray nozzle drips when not in use and/or they have to wait an extended period of time while holding the rear washer button before it sprays.
Cause
Some vehicles may have been built without a rear window washer check valve.
Correction
Follow the service procedure below to correct this condition.
Open the rear lift gate.
Remove the two bolts that retain the cargo tie downs and remove the tie downs.
Remove the bolt that retains the pull strap to the lift gate and remove the pull strap.
Remove the two push-in retainers.
Gently pull on the lift gate trim panel in order to disengage the retaining clips.
Remove the lift gate trim panel from the vehicle.
Locate the rear window washer hose where it passes through the lift gate sheet metal near the rear wiper arm.
Measure the hose from the pass through connector 76 mm (3 in) back and cut the hose.
Install washer check valve, P/N 22102237, with the arrow pointing in the direction of the fluid flow and towards the pass through connector on the lift gate sheet metal near the wiper arm.
Tape the washer check valve to the lift gate wiring harness with black electrical tape or equivalent.
Install the lift gate trim panel to the vehicle.
Gently press the trim panel in order to fully seat the retaining clips into the lift gate.
Install the two plastic push in retainers.
Install the lift gate pull down handle and bolt. Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 1.5 Nˇm (13 lb in).
Install the two cargo tie downs and bolts. Tighten
Tighten the two bolts to 9 Nˇm (80 lb in).
Close the lift gate.
Verify the operation of the rear window washer.

The idler arm requires lubrication at the recommended intervals specified in the Owner's Manual. However, the zerk fitting is apparently not visible and readily accessible. The underbody protection plate on the vehicle (the one embossed with H2) needs to be removed. The idler arm zerk fitting is facing the right hand frame rail of the vehicle. Therefore, a 90 degree fitting on the grease gun is required. The Snap-On part number for the grease gun adapter is YA757.

Condition
Some customers may comment or technicians may notice needle bearings being found during an engine oil change. The bearings may be found in either the drain pan used or on the magnetic oil pan drain plug.
Cause
One or more rocker arms may have experienced a bearing failure.
Correction
Inspect all of the rocker arms for bearing retainer cap failure. If one or more defective rocker arms are found, replace all 16 rocker arms. Refer to the Engine Mechanical sub-section in the appropriate Service Manual.
If no condition with the rocker arms is found, refer to the service history for previous rocker arm repair. If previous rocker arm repair was made, then the engine may not have been thoroughly cleaned of loose roller bearings. If no previous rocker arm repair was made, then look for another condition.
Remove the oil pan and clean out any additional bearings found within the oil pan. Refer to the Engine Mechanical sub-section in the appropriate Service Manual.
Install the oil pan. Refer to the Engine Mechanical sub-section in the appropriate Service Manual.

Condition
General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2003 model year HUMMER H2 vehicles. Some of these vehicles have a condition where the windshield wiper motor may fail during use because of improper manufacture. If this were to occur in severe weather, driver visibility could be reduced, which could result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.
Correction
Dealers are to inspect the wiper motor assembly, and replace if necessary.

Service Procedure
Turn the windshield wipers ON and then OFF to allow them to cycle one time to ensure that they are in the parked position before beginning.
Open the hood.
Important
Note the location of the wiper blades on the windshield before removal.
Lift the wiper arm (1) and raise it approximately 50 mm (2 in) from the glass.
Release the locking tab at the base of the wiper arm (2) by sliding the tab outwards with a flat-bladed tool.
With a flat-bladed tool, pull the wiper arm off the transmission (3).
Notice
Applying a layer of masking tape on the wiper transmissions in the next step will help prevent paint damage to the air inlet grille when removing and installing it.
Apply layer of masking tape over the knurls on the wiper transmissions.
Release the retainer clips on the air inlet grille end panels from the vehicle by applying upward pressure to the panel.
Remove the air inlet grille end panels from the vehicle.
Remove the screw (1) from each side of the air inlet grille panel.
Remove the two black push-in type fasteners (2) from the front edge of the air inlet grille panel.
Notice
There are four retaining clips (3) located under the air inlet grille that attach it to the body. To avoid damaging the towers located on the underside of the panel in the next step, DO NOT attempt to remove it by pulling hard quickly. New retaining clips will be used later in this procedure.
Slide your fingers from the outside edge of the panel inwards until they are below one of the clips. Gradually lift the air inlet grille panel upwards as necessary at that location to release that clip. Repeat this step on the three remaining clips.
Important
Do not disconnect the washer hose when repositioning in the next step.
Reposition the panel out of the way.
Inspect the wiper motor for the manufacturing location.
If the wiper motor has printing (2) on it that reads "Trico Products Made in England," DO NOT replace the motor. Proceed to Step 31 and reassembly the vehicle.
If the wiper motor has a white label (1) on it that reads "Passed Insp," along with a bar code, REPLACE the motor. Proceed to the next step.
Disconnect the vehicle wiring harness electrical connector from the wiper motor.
Remove the three bolts (1) that attach the wiper module to the vehicle.
Remove the wiper module from the vehicle.
Important
The location of the crank arm to the bracket must be marked in the next step to assure that the crank arm is installed correctly on the new motor. Not marking the crank arm position may result in the arm being installed out-of-position on the new motor. This condition may result in the wiper arm/blades parking incorrectly on the windshield when the wipers are turned off or traveling off the windshield when in use.
Mark the location of the crank arm on the bracket. This will be used for proper positioning of the crank arm on the new motor.
Remove the nut attaching the crank arm to the wiper motor and remove the arm.
Remove the three bolts attaching the wiper motor to the wiper module bracket.
Remove the wiper motor and do not reuse.
Important
The new wiper motor being installed is already in the PARK position. This position is required for properly installing the crank arm. Do not rotate or turn the motor shaft prior to installing the crank arm.
Position the wiper motor on the bracket and install the three attaching bolts. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 12 Nˇm (106 lb in).
Align the crank arm with the mark on the bracket and install the arm on the motor shaft. Press down on the arm to engage it on the knurls on the motor shaft.
Install the nut. Tighten
Tighten the nut to 25 Nˇm (18 lb ft).
Install the wiper module to the vehicle and install the three attaching bolts. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 9 Nˇm (80 lb in).
Connect the vehicle wiring harness electrical connector to the wiper motor.
Remove the masking tape from the wiper transmissions.
Important
Temporarily installing the wiper arms in the next step allows you to verify that the crank arm is positioned correctly on the motor before installing the air inlet grille panel.
Align the key on the wiper arm with the detent on the wiper transmission. With the locking tab in the open position, push the wiper arm onto the transmission.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and verify proper wiper and washer operation. Turn the wiper switch to the OFF position.
If the crank arm has been installed correctly on the motor, the wiper arm/blades will PARK at the located noted at the beginning of this procedure. Proceed to the next step.
If the crank arm has NOT been installed correctly on the motor, the wiper arm/blades will NOT park at the location noted at the beginning of this procedure. It will be necessary to remove and reinstall the crank arm correctly before proceeding.
Remove the wiper arms from the transmissions.
Apply a new layer of masking tape over the knurls on the wiper transmissions.
Install four new retaining clips on the bottom side of the air inlet grille panel.
Position the air inlet grille panel to the vehicle and press downward to engage the four new retaining clips.
Install the two black push-in type fasteners at the front edge of the air inlet grille panel.
Notice
To avoid cracking the panel in the next step, finger-start the screw at each end of the panel. DO NOT tighten either screw until both have been finger started.
Finger-start the screw located at each end of the air inlet grille panel. After both screws are finger-started, tighten them. Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 Nˇm (18 lb in).
Position the air inlet grille end panels to the vehicle and press downward to engage the retaining clips.
Remove the masking tape from the wiper transmissions.
Align the key on the wiper arm with the detent on the wiper arm transmission. With the locking tab in the open position, push the wiper arm onto the transmission.
Verify that the wiper arm is fully seated on the transmission and then close the locking tab.
Install the GM Recall Identification Label.
Recall Identification Label -- For US
Place a Program Identification Label on each vehicle corrected in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Product Program Bulletin. Each label provides a space to include the program number and the five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the program service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or a ball point pen.
Put the Program Identification Label on a clean and dry surface of the radiator core support in an area that will be visible to people servicing the vehicle. When installing the Program Identification Label, be sure to pull the tab to allow the adhesion of the clear protective covering. Additional Program Identification Labels for US dealers can be obtained from Dealer Support Materials by either ordering on the web from DWD Store, gm-dealerworld.com, or calling 1-866-700-0001 (Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST). Request Item Number S-1015 when ordering.
Additional Program Identification Labels for IPC dealers can be obtained from your Regional Marketing Office.
Recall Identification Label -- For Canada
Place a Recall Identification Label on each vehicle in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Product Recall Bulletin. Each label provides a space to include the recall number and the five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the recall service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or a ball point pen.
Put the Recall Identification Label on a clean and dry surface of the radiator core support in an area that will be visible to people servicing the vehicle. A failure to repair within sixty days after tender of a vehicle is prima facie evidence of failure to repair within a reasonable time. If the condition is not adequately repaired within a reasonable time, the customer may be entitled to an identical or reasonably equivalent vehicle at no charge or to a refund of the purchase price less a reasonable allowance for depreciation. To avoid having to provide these burdensome remedies, every effort must be made to promptly schedule an appointment with each customer and to repair their vehicle as soon as possible. In the recall notification letters, customers are told how to contact the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration if the recall is not completed within a reasonable time.
Dealer Recall Responsibility
FOR ALL
All unsold new vehicles in dealers' possession and subject to this recall MUST be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this recall bulletin BEFORE customers take possession of these vehicles.
Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this recall at no charge to customers, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.
Customers who have recently purchased vehicles sold from your vehicle inventory, and for which there is no customer information indicated on the dealer listing, are to be contacted by the dealer. Arrangements are to be made to make the required correction according to the instructions contained in this bulletin. This could be done by mailing to such customers a copy of the customer letter accompanying this bulletin. Recall follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose, since the customer may not as yet have received the notification letter.
In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this recall enters your vehicle inventory, or is in your dealership for service in the future, please take the steps necessary to be sure the recall correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Reason For This Recall
General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2003 model year HUMMER H2 vehicles. Some of these vehicles have a condition where the windshield wiper motor may fail during use because of improper manufacture. If this were to occur in severe weather, driver visibility could be reduced, which could result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.
What Will Be Done
Your HUMMER dealer will inspect the wiper motor assembly and replace it, if necessary. This service will be performed for you at no charge .
How Long Will The Repair Take?
The length of time required to perform this inspection is approximately 25 minutes. If the wiper motor is replaced, another 20 minutes will be required. Additional time may be required to schedule and process your vehicle. If you dealer has a large number of vehicles awaiting service, this additional time may be significant. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional time will be needed to schedule, process and repair your vehicle.
Contacting Your Dealer
Please contact your HUMMER dealer as soon as possible to arrange a service date. Parts are available and instructions for making this correction have been sent to your dealer.
Your dealer is best equipped to obtain parts and provide services to correct your vehicle as promptly as possible. Should your dealer be unable to schedule a service date within a reasonable time, you should contact the HUMMER Customer Assistance Center at 1-866-HUMMER 6 (1-866-486-6376).

The attached customer reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in making the necessary correction in the shortest possible time. Courtesy Transportation
If your vehicle is within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, your dealer will provide you with shuttle service or some other form of courtesy transportation while your vehicle is at the dealership for this repair. Please refer to your Owner's Manual and your dealer for details on Courtesy Transportation.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
SERVICE VME
This is a revision to a message previously sent. If a customer indicates that the air conditioning system on a 2003 H2 is not providing sufficient cooling, it could be due to the system not going into recirculation if operating in the "Auto" mode. It is advised that during pre-delivery inspection of all new vehicles, your technicians pull the A/C fuse for 15 seconds and then reinstall it. This will re-calibrate the system and may prevent this condition from occurring. Revised software is currently being developed for production as a permanent field fix, but will not be available for a period of time. If the condition persists, advise your customers to manually select the recirculation mode by pressing the corresponding button on the control head. You will be advised upon availability of the revised software.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. If you encounter a driveline clunk on a HUMMER H2 upon accelerating in a forward direction after backing up, first verify that the problem is not driveline lash related and then replace the park brake cables. The new part numbers are: left hand side, 15190243, and right hand side, 15190244

Some H2 Hummer customers may comment on wavy, loose or falling off lower liftgate moldings. Trucks built between VIN (last eight positions) 3H106900 and 3H107725 may have this condition. Replace molding with P/N 15187683 to repair the condition. Parts are available from Service Parts Operation.
