Some FYI info for anyone thinking of adding a sub/amp to 2008++

First off let me tell you what a pain in the ass its been getting my sub/amp installed in the new rig.

When we traded in the 2006 I pulled all of my equipment out, I had a PAC amp interface model AOEM-GM24, Amplifier, necessary wiring and sub box.

(for those that didnt know PAC/Peripherral have merged)

I looked up on PAC/Peripherral's site and found the new truck required a AOEM-GM1416 which is the exact same box with a different vehicle specific harness, instead of ordering a whole new box/harness I called PAC tech support and told them my exact story and the guy recommended just purchasing the new harness for my existing box which was part number: SVHGMAA2, it said this was for a Peripherral SVEN4 but PAC's site along with tech told me its the same unit... OK. Order up the harness, it arrives yesterday afternoon, I had already run all of the wires for the amp so I simply had to install the harness and hook up my RCA's and then just pop the fuse in the underhood fuse block. Plug in the harness to the vehicle connections flawlessly, go to plug the other end into the OEM-1 unit and the plug is different..... no biggie, I just cut the harness from my old one, cut the new one and matched up the wires (these are the speaker signal input wires so they are all color keyed the same from harness to harness (still pissed me off that tech told me it was plug and play). Get in all hooked up (now I am also running the new isimple/PXAMG which is identical to the UPAC-GM29 ipod integration unit) and turn it on and with the volume down on the head unit the sub is at full volume leaving me no control of the sub volume??? I pull the ipod interface off thinking that could be causing the signal prior to the head unit??? No dice, checked all of my connections which were all good. Now Im stumped so I get PAC/Peripherral tech on the phone and explain to the guy what is going on...... He asks me if I have a Bose "premium" system, which the website listed as a unit with 5 preset equalizers built in.... I checked the audio adjustment/controls on my unit and did not find anything that represented that so I suspected I was alright.... NOPE. This guy basically told me that was the problem and that I was basically fu$ked unless I wanted to run something like a Rockford 360 or JL Audio cleansweep which are singnal processors and cost big bucks.

Now this is where it got fun....... I basically wasnt taking no for an answer, with the Bose system there are built in crossovers through the entire system and since this is a sub I knew I needed to find the factory woofer to tap the low frequency signal so I start tearing into the console to find it. I removed the passenger console side panel which removes with clips very easily, I located the sub enclosure but no wires/harness, moved around to the drivers side to remove that console side panel, here I located a harness going to the sub. I pulled the plug in end off of my PAC harness and cut the wires (again), I then spliced the harness(OEM-1) into the harness going to the factory Bose sub (4 wire harness) which I wired into the rear leads of the PAC harness (it has a setup for 4 channel but at this point there are only 2 availible). Wired it in and BOOM.... it works, make the necessary adjustments for gain/input and she is working flawlessly.

If your truck has an RPO code in the glove box of "Y91" its supposedly equiped with the Bose "Premium" system so a factory integration will not work properly. At this point you can go buy a cheap $20 line out converter from any Best Buy or car audio shop and save your money on the expensive PAC stuff. This is not a dig at PAC as they do make the best integration stuff on the market but Im just a bit dissapointed in the service I recieved from tech which resulted in conflicting information being given to me..... it only costed me $25 bucks so Im not really that concerned.

Hopefully this can save the next one of you the headache I went through should you decide to add an amp to your existing set up.

nice info....so basically all i need is to connect a high/low level converter to the sub enclosure to wire a sub up?

That is basically it, although the head unit is pretty damn easy to pull out of the 2008+ (much easier than the 2003-2007's), removal of the side console panel is super easy and will give you easy access to the factory lead/harness on the bose enclosure.
