PISSED off at my former Hummer dealer
So, today we returned home from a camping trip and the temps were in the 60's.. Decided to change the oil on the H2.. I change the oil twice per year with Mobil 1 synthetic... When the oil was draining, it was hardly flowing out. I put my finger in the hole and could feel something metal in there... CRAP.. So after several hours of trying to get the pan out (WHAT A PAIN THAT WAS!!) I finally was able to get the pan down enough to get my hand inside and pulled out part of the dipstick tube... About 3 years ago, I had the right side exhaust manifold replaced under warranty and they also had to replace the dipstick tube. The tech HAD TO KNOW that when he tried to remove the tube, it fell into the pan. Guess he decided better not to say anything and just let it ride. I am surprised it has taken this long for me to notice it. Glad I have it out of the pan now! Hoping that the pan gasket does not leak as I just bolted it right back up. Anyone have a trick to get the pan out??? I unbolted the transfer case, removed the cross member and tried to jack up the tranny but still was about 1/2 inch short of being able to pull the pan completely out. THANKS HUMMER OF COLUMBUS!

And how convenient that they're out of business...
That sucks!

Re: PISSED off at my former Hummer dealer
I feel your pain. Several years ago I took my M5 to the BMW dealer for some work and an oil change. When I got it back it was leaking oil on the garage floor, so I figured they hadn't tightened something. It turns out they stripped the drain bolt when they over torqued it and put a HeliCoil in instead of replacing the oil pan. I took it back and they denied doing it and said that's the way it was - it's the last time I ever went to that dealership. I know it wasn't like that because I change the oil myself half the time. If you want it done right, it's better to do things yourself!

Jim,
How long after you get the oil changed did you go back and confront the dealership? I can't imagine the dealer denying it and then just letting it go. I'd be pissed as hell. There's no way I would have let that go.

Re: PISSED off at my former Hummer dealer
One time I had to take my pick up truck back to the GM dealer and had to ask them if I could trade them their funnel they left in my valve cover for my oil cap. They were pretty embarassed...

Re: PISSED off at my former Hummer dealer
one time we took the Firebird and the H2 to the same place for oil changes and got the Firebird back with no oil cap and we were told they did not loose it and had to buy a new one. about 6 months later we found the Firebird's oil cap in the H2's under hood area stuffed in the battery area.
trying to figure that one out still

Re: PISSED off at my former Hummer dealer
The thing that is also pissing me off is I just remembered when I picked up my H2 after they replaced the dipstick tube, I checked the oil and it was not even registering on the stick. I thought the stick was much shorter.... I walked back into the dealer and told them. The tech was about to start adding oil until it met the full line... I had to really push them to check the length of the dipstick and finally they realized they had an incorrect stick in my truck! Had I followed the tech, I would have grossly overfilled my block!
