Adding headers and dual exhaust no matter. But will they help on gas millage?

Many years years ago I added headers to my 4wd pickup. The headers rusted holes in the sides. So is the quality any better? Cost will be around $2,500 Planing to add headers at the dealers.
Good idea or should I find a speed shop to install?

I found the thread. Basanni full headers, and Basanni cat back sys. Two miles per gal.highway 65 mph.

I'd say do the math before you leap. How much gas can you buy for $2500?

For simplicity, let's say gas is $2.50 per gallon, and you get 12 miles per gallon stock, and would get 14 miles per gallon with the new exhaust, which will cost $2500.

If you drive 100,000 miles, gas is going to cost you $20,833 with the stock setup. With the new exhaust, the gas will cost $17,857. That's a difference of $2976. So the new exhaust will save you a whopping $476. This is provided you drive 100,000 miles AFTER you install the new exhaust, and don't have to spend any additional money to have any work done on the headers during that time for things such as blown gaskets, loose bolts, rust holes, or heat damage to other things under the hood.

Now, what happens if you only drive it 50,000 miles? Stock, gas will cost you $10,417. With the new exhaust, gas will cost you $8,929. That's a difference of only $1488. The new exhaust will not even pay for itself!

Also, consider the warranty hassles you may have with the dealer.

I installed headers on my H2. I did notice a slight increase in MPG, but did notice much better throttle responce and performance. I went with the other guys headers, very good quality and they are cermic coated so they should last. http://www.theotherguysproducts.com/ I would have been fine with just the headers, cold air intake and program chip, but then I made the mistake of driving a H2 with the Magna Charger. Makes the H2 a completely different vehicle.

HI Vern, I have the full kit on, intake, headers, and exhaust. Remapped the ECU as well. Truck runs great makes more power and my gas milage varies with how I drive. I used the long tube headers so I had to cut and weld. The dealer is uding the shortie headers now because of cat failures. The Belinger headers that they were selling for 2500 burned up the cats. Besides they are not worth that kind of money. I used AZ Speed and Marine headers on my truck at a fraction of the cost. I put them in myself as I enjoy wrenching. Infact I did all the mods myself. I don't the dealer touching my truck. Anyway, I hope to hear from you.

Randy, So I might have just talked to you. I didn't get a name. Yes I am looking for a cheeper way. I'm getting tired of paying the dealer prices. Will talk and I'll post what I end up with.

Please don't go to a dealer for this install---let the dealer sell cars, not aftermarket parts.

Get 304 SS headers---B&B or Borla--then sned them to Jet-Hot for coating---they will last longer than your H2. About $800.00 for headers and $200 for Jet-Hot. Thats' $1K for the BEST--you can get 409 SS headers for way cheap--a waste of money.

An install is four hours---even at $50 an hour that's $200.00. Any good shop will do it for $200-$250.00.

So, you are still almost 1/2 the dealer price for the best.

The shorties provide little to no power improvements and I'm not sure what you get improved mileage. The long headers will provide increase power and increased mileage (as long as you don't jump on it all the time). I experienced a flat spot in my acceleration before the headers and after the headers were installed I will accelerate from idle to red without any noticable flat spot. If you primarly drive city streets the headers and exhaust won't make a difference. It takes a lot of fuel just to get the beast in motion. The highway driving is where you'll see the benifits. Make sure the pipes are legal for your state.
