I'm getting a second set of wheels and tires to use exclusivly for wheeling. The OEM 33's are excellent in the snow and look good for the street and will work well for spur of the moment wheeling.
The new set will have 315/75R16's on them and I've narrowed the choice down to Pro Comp XTereme A/T's or Pro Comp Mud Terrains. Pro Comp is having a buy three get one free deal, or buy 4 get one free, and the savings is hard to pass up. Toyo's would be great but lots more $$$ which I don't have right now.
So people, what are your thoughts? Wheels/tires are only for wheeling. What to get?

the mud terrain would be my choice the look of a 35 just makes the truck say RRRAAAAARRRR !!!!

I had the muds on my last ride and had 2 different punctures,,I liked the muds except for the spacing of the lugs. I was able to get them fixed but air wizzin out of a tire is a sick feeling. I have the Xtremes now, Very meaty and work great in snow and the limited muddin Ive done. Im real happy with them but for wheelin go with the muds.. See ya

I have had the Mud Terrains on my Jeep and I didnt like them too much. I would look at the X-Terrains as they are a good comprimise between the two of your choices.

I was advised by one of the more experienced forum members (13000 posts plus pad master) that having a directional tire could be an issue come rotation and in the event of a flat. Spare will work well only on one side of the truck.

I bought 3 get 1 free w/ 33" pro comp mud's from 4wheel parts. They knock the price up on the 3 so they don't loose as much $ on the 4th.
sooo be carefull!
I DID LIKE THE MUD TERRAINS THOUGH, GOOD TIRES!

Does the Pro Comps have the LT rating or is that pretty much a norm for these class of tires?

I've run both their ATs and MTs in the past.
They aren't very good and don't even compare with BFG.
I'd get a BFG M/T if I was you.

Worst tire I ever owned was a Pro-Comp.
Horrible traction on and off road, a downright unsafe tire
Stick withe BFG on your Hummer and you won't regret it.
Or if you are really serious about off-road only, go with the Pitbull Rocker

Okay folks... I've been hearing some questional reports on Pro Comps here. There have been suggestions for other tire brands, etc.
Help me out then. Here is my budget $1000 - $1100 absolute max shipped to 01760. I want 5 quiet, extremely compitent off-road tires that work great in the rocks and at a minimum better than average everywhere else. When I was at Paragon last time the only thing the OEM Bridestones did poorly at was on rocks. Thats unacceptable. Hummer Hill will be mine!!! RARRR
So, for those of you that have a second to help and know of a good deal, post a review and a link. 315/75R16's. Thats what I want. I'll be happy with 4 and a couple cans of fix a flat if necessary.
Help a brother out.

You cant use fix a flat with the tire sensors it will screw them up.

I found Toyo Open Country M/T's for 220/ea. or 972.30 shipped for four. I think this might be the best choice. I'll just save my nickles and dimes for a fifth.
Waiting to hear back from them to see if they have them in stock.

Rob, quiet and and off-road only don't go together
I have had my rockers for a year, best tire I have ever owned for off-road. They are ok on the Highway. But keep in mind, my truck is completely different from an H3. It's not driven daily (But could be).
Also, how a tire does is all about low air pressure. Radials work really well at 12 or leass, bias plys 8 or less.
If you want a tire that gets is fully off road, you have to sacrifice quite a bit. Besides, it's not like it's a bad sound!
Pitbulls are bias ply, that means for them to work, yo have to air them down to 8 psi or less. Double beadlocking them is advisable, and can be done very inexpensively with a $49 kit from Inchworm Gear.
Here is the link to a post about them from a while ago. It may make sense for you since you want a second set of rims anyway

Another great tire is the Irok, and it is available in both Bias play and radial.
Goodyear M/T's are a great radial, that work very well in th rocks, but will suck in the mud.
I don't know much about Nitto's or thew Toyo's off road, I simply don't know anyone running them.

You will not go wrong with the Toyos - I can not say enough good about them. In fact you mention that this will be your second set of tires and I get you use these 100% of the time! You will forget about your stock tires after seeing how well these perform on and off road.

switching tires back and forth = PITA!
BPARKER has the best idea yet. once you have these on, sell your stocks, you won't want to swap them every time you go off road.
IMO- I would go with an AT tire like the BFG AT, PRO COMP EXTREEME AT, or go to the Toyo's.
I'm not sure what state you are in, but MT tires suck in the snow. FWIW.

I'm in Massachusetts, so yes, it does snow.
The northeast seems to be a bit "limited" in wheeling areas. This means that I'll get to wheel maybe 6-8 times a year. Each of those trips should be multiple days though.
My guess is that the hour to hour and a half to switch out the wheels will be doable. If not, then yes, I will probably sell the OEM set.
In 315/75R16 I can get:
BFG AT KO's for $200 each.
XTerrains for basically $192 delivered (for 5)
Toyo Open Country M/T for basically $245 delivered (for 4)
Given my budget and what I want to do, which one?
