Question gas tank mileage

When i fill the gas tank i always reset my mileage or trip meter . I notice that sometimes when i fill the tank it will say 360 and sometimes 388 is this common to flucuate in such an amount . I always fill the tank up an dalways with high grade gas. Any and all help is appreciated nothing wrong just bothers me to see such a differance .

Thanks ,

charles

Wink Re: gas tank mileage

Is this your way of telling us you're getting between 11.25 and 12.13 MPG?

Default Re: gas tank mileage

You are talking about DTE (distance to empty) on the computer?

If so, this is perfectly normal, and found on any decent car with a trip computer.

Computer calculates the driving range based on your previous driving habits (ie. average of many instantaneous mpg calculations over some time in the recent past) just before the fill up.

All cars do this calculation. So if you were doing mainly highway miles, the DTE will show more than if you are driving mainly city miles.
