Re: Need help with night vision goggles
I know that they have different generations. Also the type of tubes and where they're made are important to the image quality. I tried out a Gen 3+ unit that was about 2 grand, and it was cool, but not 2 grand cool -- still a little grainy at long range. Close range (20 ft or less) w/ the invisible light that came out was incredible, though.

Re: Need help with night vision goggles
It all depends on what its going to be used for? Being in the military I have used many diffrent types. The cheaper ones resemble range finders, the pricey ones are adaptable to your helmet, headgear and such. There are many mods and gens it just depends how much your willing to cough up!

Re: Need help with night vision goggles
I use to sell Gen 1 & Gen 2 night vision in the retail market...
All of them were grainy, even the pricer ones...my advise buy the Gen thats just behind what is current, that way you get a better value...spend the max but do your homework on pricing...
ALSO, biggest problem is BURN IN
ADVISE who its for to be VERY CAREFUL, can be an expensive mistake...
