Does anyone know how to re-create the fan controller on a 2500HD?

There isn't a seperate controller, its built into the PCM.

You need to be a little more specific...You mean the PCM?

The PCM in your truck right now is capable of controlling the electric fans. You will need to run some additional wires from the electric fans to the PCM as the H2's never came w/ that. I have no clue if the programming is even setup in the stock tune. You're going to have to talk to a tuner, they would know.

As far as specifics...if you have already searched the forums, I dont ever remember any documented how-to's on this. I'd head over to performancetrucks.net and look for some of the other guys doing this to the pickups.

In the fuse box next to the battery, there must be some wires underneath and some relays and fuses on top. I know the PCM wire must exist under it, I want to get the GM parts that plug into the fuse box and run back out to the fans. I just don't know what those Delphi/Delco part numbers are.

You are not going to gain anything w/ that truck fan setup, you need to find LS1 fan setup out of a camaro/firebird....higher flow numbers

The only advantage I could see running electric fans is if you plan on going through some deep water.

If you are running hot, forget about all this bull**** and just buy a Ron Davis radiator. That will completely eliminate all temp problems.

No, I am not running hot, I don't like the roar of the mechanical fan. I also have a whipple. What I would really like to do is have the fans run for 15 minutes after I shut the engine off to get rid of some the heat. The engine stays hot for hour and hours after its parked.

You just need to turn the ****ing radio up or get a louder exhaust then.

That isn't going to do **** then for what you want. First the PCM wont run the fans after you shut off the motor. If you had a seperate fan controller, you can do this- but your not going to be cooling the engine down any faster.

You will need an electric water pump to circulate the system while the motor is off. I've never looked into seeing if there is some type of passive electric water pump that would free spin when its not powered allowing the mechanical pump to circulate the system. But thats not going to work either, if the trucks off that water pump is going to be locked up by the belt. You would have to go fully electric water pump only.

When i get out of the truck, it's hot as hell under the hood. The metal by the coolant resevior is incredibly hot, but the temp gauge never gets above 200. Is everyone's truck like this? I have read that engines are supposed to run at that temp to be healthy, ie buring off moisture in the oil systems.

I have heard that with the nelson harness you can put a 15 min timer on a button in the truck that you can hit when you turn the engine off.

Yea, these motors and similar LSx all run 205-210 normal operating temp. They definately radiate the heat...that doesn't mean its doing any damage or operating wrong.

If your motor is shut down and you contunue to run the fans pulling air through the radiator...(i'm just throwing this number out, no factual data) Id be suprised if you were cooling down the system at 5% of the cooling capacity its capable when running. You will not be circulating any fluid through the block. You would only be cooling the fluid trapped in the radiator. You'd probably be better off pointing a fan at the engine block directly blowing air over what your trying to cool. Its the circulation from the hot enging to the cooler radiator is what does the job.

I hate seeing people spend unnecessary money or pissing it away on something that doesn't work as intended. Add in the electric water pump w that setup and it will do it.

Still thats alot of money...and I'd still say get a Ron Davis radiator over this entire setup. Search the forums for others that have that radiator, see if you can get a reply out of them how they like it...It really sucks the heat out of the 6 liter and so much more effecient than stock.

Is that the case even when the engine is shut down? I think a Ron Davis Radiator with e-fans could be a good combo.

Just talked to gentleman at Ron Davis, he said if it aint broke, don't fix it. Just drive it.

I guess I need to find something else to tinker with.

Well... if you really need a reason, you could be proactive- There is a known issue w/ the stock radiator and the tranny heat loop thats in it. The wall blows out allowing antifreeze to enter in the tranny loop. Antifreeze in your tranny = new tranny + new radiator.
