Been a bad couple of days for Marines. 6 snipers were ambushed and killed supposedly without any of them getting off a shot.
Now today and IED flipped a 30 ton AAV and killed 14.

6 US Marine snipers were ambushed without getting a shot off?? Must have been an extremely odd circumstance. Those guys have amazing skills - very sharp and stealth.
What is an IED and an AAV please?

More reason why the parking lot theory might have been far better.

Some grunts near the ambush heard tons of AKs and what-not open up en masse but said they never heard any return fire.
I just find it difficult that 2 teams of 3 sniper/scouts get taken out without any of them getting off a shot and that the ambush had to be so well orchestrated to do that. It's not like they simply were walking down the middle of the street. It's just hard to imagine the circumstances.
Then in the same area this IED was so big it blew a huge crater and was able to flip the AAV completely over. Sounds like we need to put a noose on this area and slowly tighten it, all the while a Spectre rains hell from above.

They were killed with small arms fire. But that's really all that's out there. Well, they're from the same OH town.
Can you provide links to more detailed info? It seems spotty at best.

I believe the parking lot option means it would have been better to just bomb it and flatten everything.

Sniping in urban terrain is very difficult. One well placed mortar, RPG or gernade anywhere close to your hide can bring the overhead down on you considering every structure is concrete over there a ceiling falling down can take out a team. Direction of a sniper shot in urban terrain is determined very easily by the of a straw, pipe cleaner etc. placed into the entrance wound of the sniper victim and follow the angle of trajectory to the highest vantage point and 9 times out of ten thats where the sniper is. Then throw every thing at the position, no matter how well the sniper was hidden you cannot hide from shrapnel or mortars. Sad story . And about the AAV it is designed to hit a beach head running dump off the grunts and go back to the LCAC, LSD or landing craft not to be engaged long range urban assault OPS. The Corps needs some Strykers for that.
