My wife and I have gotten been bitten by the H3 Bug. We loved the vehicle after we tried it out. We are having a hard time finding a Black Base without the chrome package. Also has anyone gotten any good finance rates better than 6.3%? Has anyone had any trouble ordering one. I haven't seen any black grills to replace the chrome. The dealers won't seem to budge on the MSRP so we figured we might as well order it the way we want it. Any input would be helpful? Thanks

First of all, Congrats on your choice to getting a Hummer. I bought mine a month ago and was only able to get the 6.3% rate. GM is not offering any type of low interest rate on the H3 at this time that I know about.

As far as getting the dealer to come off MSRP, you will see numerous posts that will tell you to stick to your guns about getting one. Since dealers are now getting a good supply they are willing to deal now. If this dealer is not willing, WALK and find another in your area and call them to see if they can deal. I was able to get around a 2K discount at my dealer.

You can always search the internet for other Hummer dealers and call them to see if they will deal and also if they will deliver to you.

No matter what your dealer says they can always perform a search for what you are looking for and do a dealer trade with another to get the vehicle you want. Now with that said, if you do not want the standard chrome grill then it may be a bit harder to find a stock vehicle out there.

Remember as soon as you take the vehicle off the lot it loses value so why would you want to start out in the hole? There is no reason why you should take a hit and the dealer gets to make a nice profit.

Can't answer about finance rates, and I thought the black grills were aftermarket. However, ask your dealer if they will accept GMID (GM in the Driveway), if so, send me an email, from your email address, to f5fstop@comcast.net (make sure to put something in the subject line or it might be spammed), include your date of birth and last four numbers of your social security number.
I'll get you a GMID authorization number and this drops the price of the H3 to approximately 2 percent above invoice. Most dealers will accept GMID; even if they won't budge off MSRP.
If your dealer does not accept, there are plenty out there that will. Please make sure you can use the GMID. I'm allowed two per month, and if the number is issued and not redeemed, it might hurt someone else.

What Guppy stated about dealers searching for vehicles, that is correct. I went to my dealer and they not only took my GMS (actual GM employee discount), but they also sent someone to Indianapolis to pick up the H3 I wanted. I had performed a search on the GM dealer system for a white H3 with off-road and luxury package, as well as XM, chrome package, etc., and I found four within 250 miles of the Detroit area. So, dealers do perform trades.

Just for the record, on the H3 the GMID price is actually below invoice.

All of them come with the chrome grills. The color matched ones we did are ones that we sent to our body shop and had painted.

You should do the GMID for sure. Also, look into the Smart Buy program. Sometimes they offer some really good incentives through that program on select GM vehicles. I just went with my neighbor and helped her buy a new Pontiac G6. She got 4K off sticker going through the smart buy and I gave her the GMID discount which took off another 2,400. She got a great deal. Then, when the first invoice comes she plans to write a check for the payoff and she will own the car.

Then I guess I have a problem reading the following GM invoice on an H3.
Purchase price: $37460
GMID: $34241
Invoice: $33422 (does not reflect any special prices to dealers, etc.)
GMS: 32766.93

I won't post the PEP prices listed...

Prices also do not reflect any rebates or specials offered by dealers.

Looks like Aggie was dipping a bit too deep in the eggnog. GMS is below invoice, GMID is approx 2% above as f5fstop states. Still a great deal.

I have a question....I'm going again to look at an H3 tomorrow and possibly purchase. This is the deal the dealership offered me:
Trade in for my Element: $13,000
I owe $14,800 on the Element...
$600 down and a lease for $426/month for 39 months w/10k mi. per year.

Those figures are for a Black Base model. AND I have GMS. Am I the only one who thinks that $426/mo. is still high for a base model with GMS discount?

I can't even guess about the value for your Element, so if you think they are treating you right on it, then you just need to get the right lease terms.

There is a calculator on gmbuypower.com that will help you compare leases, although they don't have the special low mileage lease on it. It looks like their numbers aren't too far off, especially adding in the $1800 hit on the Honda.

I suggest looking at the 2 year smart buy, the residuals are really good. Putting in some approximate numbers for your deal, the payment comes out to $421 for a 2 year with 12k miles per year. Seems a bit better than the low mileage lease.

Don't take a low milage lease, cause once you get it you will not want to stop driving it......trust me

I guess the main reason I'm not sure if it's a good deal or not is that because I can go to a Honda dealership (I've already checked into it) and trade the element in- they'll pay it off in full and I can lease a 2006 Pilot EX (basically loaded with the exception of a sunroof and leather) for $349 a month for 42 months with $585 due at signing and 12k miles a year. The price on the sticker for the Pilot EX is approx. $32,000.

I guess I'm off here but it just seems to me that a base H3 w/GMS discount would be cheaper than $426/month with only 10k per year. Especially considering that what I owe on the Element should basically wash out the GMS discount. There is about $2-3k difference in price. I just figured it'd make the H3 cheaper

yeah I don't think I could survive on a 10k lease. Not the way I like to shop

Can you guys just clarify one thing for me, is the GMS price and the GM Supplier discount the same thing? I am getting an H3 in Spring and I need to make sure that I am using the best possible rebate program. I can have access to pretty much any rebate program but I need to make sure I use the best one. Can someone break down which insider programs are availble and which are most advantageous?

Thanks for all the great advice. We took a break on decision making over Christmas. I'm going to write the dealer we have been working with and see what they can come up with. I'll stay updated. Anybody bought in North Carolina or Virginia?

Re-post of something I posted a few months ago.
GM Supplier Vehicle Purchase Program (SVPP) allows active employees of an eligible GM supplier to receive a discount that is approximately 2% above invoice.


GMID or GM In the Driveway, is a program GM started a year ago that allows any GM employee (salary or hourly) to obtain two authorization numbers per month for anyone to purchase a GM vehicle. The authorization number cannot be given to anyone who is eligible for the actual GM employee discount.



GM employees are eligible for two different types of discounts:

GM New Vehicle & Company-Owned Vehicle Purchase Programs (NVPP & COVPP)

The COVPP (Company Owned Vehicle Purchase Program) allows active, retired, employees on disability or approved absence (for a period of 12 months) to purchase a new GM driven company car at a large discount that depends on the mileage of the vehicle. (Good example is a few years ago, I purchased a 2001 Corvette with 2900 miles for 35K, and it had a sticker of about 49K.) Spouses and surviving spouses are also eligible for this program.

NVPP (New Vehicle Purchase Program...AKA GMS) allows GM employees, and the following sponsored family members: spouses, surviving spouses, children, siblings (including full/half and step), in-laws (father/mother/brother/sister) and grandchildren; to obtain a GM vehicle at approximately 2% below invoice.

One reason this is called GMS is years ago, GM offered GMO and GMS to their employees. GMO had a greater discount, but it had to be ordered; therefore, it was called GMO, "O" for ordered. The other program at that time was GMS, and it allowed GM employees to purchase a vehicle that was in dealer stock, but the discount was not as good as GMO. The "S" stood for Stock.
A few years ago, GM did away with the GMO and consolidated it what was called GMS.
Dealers and employees still refer to it as GMS, even though it is really known as NVPP.
Some people also started referring to the GM supplier discount as GMS, but that is really incorrect.

SVPP (supplier discount), GMID, and GMS are up to the dealer to accept. They can refuse to sell to anyone on these discounts since the do not make as big of a profit on these vehicles, and in some cases they have been paying floor plan interest on a vehicle a supplier or employee wants to purchase.

Some dealers will accept GMID or supplier discounts but not employee discounts since the dealer makes more money on the supplier and GMID than they do on the employee discount.

The company owned vehicle purchase program can be refused by a dealer too; however, a dealer is foolish to do so, since the dealer is never charged for the vehicle, and the dealer makes 5% of the MSRP for handling the transaction. All the dealer is required to do is pick the car up (if out of state, the employee has to pay the shipping charges), wash the vehicle, and hopefully, change the oil.

Now, are we all confused?

f5fstop, thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it. I can't make out from your post which is actually lower, the SVPP (Supplier discount) or the GMID. From what I gathered, they are roughly the same, right? Also, do the rebates apply on all the options you add to your H3? I'm looking at 10K of options on mine, so it makes a huge difference!

GMID and Supplier pricing are the same. These apply only to stuff on the invoice of the vehicle. Everything else will be at the dealer's discretion.
