What sort of hookups do I need to keep the onstar working, the door open stuff, etc.
As far as the look.. they slip right into the factory spot with no problem.. that is.. adding the appropriate adapter.
I had the Avic-D1 and just upgraded to the Z1. Only thing I can add is to avoid the Pac OS2 adaptor. I had to swap out 2 of them and it never liked onstar too much.

Dear GM: PLEASE SELL ME AN HX
First head to avic411.com, a plethora of info on the unit.
Got the peripheral gm onstar with bose- interface (if you have the monsoon). i think it is gm24hb or something like that. i also got the chime module that goes with that unit. This combination works flawlessly.
I got the scosche 1595b dash head unit. fits the h3 good but not the z1. The top bezel of the head unit is a little too large and does not allow the unit to close properly when opened to insert a disc. I need to shave of some of the top bezel to give it more room.
You need a antenna adapter for fm and am.
The installation of the xm, bluetooth, ipod and camera is pretty straight foward.
The z1 is an awesome unit, when you learn all the functions...far superior than the stock unit. Sounds great and navigates incredibly well.
Do hook up the vss wire-improves accuracy on the nav.
Also do get the ducatiboy mod that allows you to bypass the in drive security and allows you to unlock some nav functions and dvd playing while driving. You will find the relay from ducatiboy on avic411.com under mods.
Hope this helps.
