Two questions Gary:
(1) does the wench prevent normal hood opening?
(2) can it be removed and installed with one set of hands?

Thanks for the pics.

Jim,

1. You can't open the hood completely, otherwise you will crack your plastic grill.

2. The winch weighs 89lbs not including the carrier. It is a bit heavy but one person can handle it.

3. I am getting a cable for the winch through MasterPull.com. The cable is made of rope and is stronger and safer than the aircraft cable.

Does the red connector have to be mounted where it's at? I seen a Red Hummer with the red connector mounted in the same locations as yours. Can it be mounted in the grill area? I just see the potential of breaking the connect on a rock or something.

Gary:

Thanks for the info.

I've been looking at winches for a while and I think the new thermometric that you have is the way to go!

I'm a bit concerned about not being able to open the hood all the way, but I suppose I can either simply remove the winch or rest a towel atop the winch whenever openeing the hood. At 89lbs., doesn't sound like much of a hassle.

You only have one power cable to unclip and then unhook at the hitch receiver?

SJ,

The connector for the 12V supply is mount directly under the tow hook on the passenger side.

I did this because anywhere else the hood came in contact with it. Warn makes covers for the connectors when you don't have the winch powered to it. I also have the same connector on the rear mounted under the reciever hitch. See photo posted of rear bumper inserts and you will see the location of it.

Mike,

The H2 is full on plastic and fiberglass. This weekend when I put in my Whelen airhorn and PA. I was amazed to see the hood is NOT metal but fiberglass like a corvette. The grill is plastic too. If you mount the 12V power connector to those items you will not have the strength like mounting it under the tow hooks.

DrtyFn,

I got them through Warn. It's the multi-mount carrier. If you have a Warn dealer in your area they can get it for you.

did you have to modify the multi-mount since the H2's front receiver only has access from the top?

DrtyFn,

I drilled a hole in the multi-mount carrier to allow for a verticle pin versus the horizontal hole in the carrier for the rear. I spoke with a couple Warn dealers and they said it won't change the integrity of the multi-mount carrier as long as the two holes are apart from each other and not right next to each other. There is a hitch extender for the front that GM has for the multi-mount you could buy but it would make the winch stick out so far from the bumper. This however would allow for the hood to open completely without having to remove the carrier from the front of your H2.
