Default 35" BFG all terrains?

Well, the stock tires are shot and I'm looking to upgrade. I commute in the twisties (hence the reason the stock tires are shot at only 20k) What would be the choice? 33" MTs? 33" ATs? 35" MTs? or 35" ATs? I'd like to hear the comments on why or why not. Would the 35" MT or ATs kill my mileage? How about handling? I run hard up and down the mountain everyday but need the H3 to do well offroad still. Is there a perfect tire? I'd like it to handle like a low profile Pirelli on the road and perform like a MT off road.

Huck,

I cannot comment on the specifics to the 35inch tire on the 3... but i can comment on the drivability of the BFG AT. I do a lot of driving (58k on my 05) and the first mod i do to all my trucks is to put on some BFG AT's. They last a long time for an aggressive tire, go great in 99% of off-raod situations, and they dont hum on the highway.

Also, for an off-road tire, they do great in the snow/ice....

BFG ATs are awesome in everything but mud and they last forever. They do tend to throw rocks and gravel tho.

I'm not worried about the guy behind me ... I've always run BFG ATs on my rigs. Just be ready for rock chips on your rear fender flares.

BFG AT's are good everywhere except when it gets wet or muddy, then they seem to lose some grip. But in on-road rain and snow conditions, they're great, and they do well enough in the woods.

From what I've heard, avoid MT's for all around tires because of the lack of siping, which will hurt their snow/rain/ice performance.

Have you thought about running 33's on your rig for daily driving, and then having a set of 35 MT's on rims for when you run trails? The MT's are great off-highway. I know that is somewhat expensive (I've contemplated it) but it might be worth it in the long run (less wear on your road tires, better off-highway performance).

Question for you guys.
I have the stock A/T 285/75/16. I am looking at getting some new tires and the local BigO deal said that I could put tires that were 12.5" wide on my stock rims eventhough the stock tires are 11.5". Will 12.5 fit on the stock rims?

Thanks

Huck, if I recall you noted in the past how your H3 was lacking power. Since you drive at altitude in the Sierra's, you should be cautious about using 35" inch tires (vs. 32 or 33), especially if you think the power/acceleration is marginal now. I tend to feel the 3.5L is just adequate also and have no interest in making my rig slower on the street.

S.

I've got 305/55R20s BFG AT's, they are awesome in the snow and the dirt. Awesome all around tire...not much road noise that I notice.

Haven't tried it in deep mud though, but I don't plan on going thru it either with 20" black chrome wheels (not if I can avoid it).
