So yea, I had that noise a few people were complaining about. No vibrations. Just sounded like a low whining that went up in pitch the faster you got moving. So I called Hummer of Orlando, and they said bring it in the next day. Went in, sat there about a half hour. All the sudden the service dept. manager came in and told me they are going to drop in a whole new drivetrain. They said that its the 4th one that they've had that problem with. So now i got a rental til next week. I am not bitchin though, I love the H3, and they are covering all my costs. So it's nice that i am not being hassled about it, and they are handling it in an awesome way.

gchurch,
Sorry to hear about your sick H3. How has the service department treated you so far? I have heard the service department there is far superior to the sales end of the dealership. Hope you get it back soon. Are you interested in getting together with other central Florida Hummer owners occasionally to go out and hit some trails?

the engine is fine. its just the drivetrain the service guy told me. makes sense. It didnt make any sound if you just were sitting in place and not moving. Just when you were moving. Takes this dealership 5 days to get it in. He said, they arent taking anything apart, just replacing the whole thing. My salesman that I had at least was pretty damn cool. Anytime I walk into the dealership, he pops out of his office and says whats up, asks me how I am doing. Same with the service dept. They are really cool, and gave me a brand new impala rental while I wait.
I used to have a 9 inch lifted tahoe 4x4 with 35's. This is a step down for me in size, but it feels so much more solid than my chevy did. So i really like this h3, still glad I got it.
Where you from hummer newbie?

Glad to hear that you had a good experience with the sale staff. I have not exactly been please but I know several people that have walked out and will never buy from them. I had heard the service department is great though. Hopefully they will get it fixed quickly.
Sounds like you probably have some experience wheeling based on your previous vehicle. I would love to get some groups together and go out wheeling. Where have you gone around here? I am in the Altamone Springs area, how about you?

Anyone know if the axle problems have been early production H3s, or are most of the replacements on the electric locking Adventure Axles?

Nooooo!!!!! Damn it. I had never owned a "truck" or SUV before, or an I-5 for that matter, and thought it was just the "sound" the engine makes. What you described is EXACTLY what is going on in my H3. I'll take it in just in and see what they say.
Thanks for the info...I think!

I live in downtown orlando. Never went out down here. Just moved here from western NY. Now up there, theres REAL dirt. Not as much sand. My parents have over 100 acres of land, and my uncle has somewhere near 140 some acres. Lots of good land.
I would like to try to get into something. For now though, I still want to go out for some nighttime offshore fishin. My roomate caught a 4 foot hammerhead the other week. Sounds like a blast!
I did buy the adventure series. I dont know if it is related to that... BUT i am pickin the ole h3 later in this week. I will ask as many questions as possible and see what more I can find out!

I agree, wish there was better terrain down here for wheeling. From what I have heard, Ocala is pretty good. I have also heard that they are working on a 100+ mile trail that will have many levels of obstacles. I will let you know if we are getting a group together. I have also created a site for local owners. The site is a work in progress and I have not had any time to work on it lately but hope to finish it up soon.

I had my rear axle replaced but is does not appear to have fixed any of my problems. I am still getting bad driveline vibrations being transmitted thru the gas pedal. I am wondering if I have a bad transfer case.

so I got the H3 back. they replaced the whole differential. They said it was one of the "bum" ones that didn't get cleaned out. in other words it was full of grit and was just tearing itself up.
so now since it has been changed, there is no more whinning noise. All fixed. Just a pain waiting for a whole week... but it was awesome to get it back after having to deal with a rental all week!
