I contacted Avis to see which Avis locations in my area rented the H3. Here is their response:
"Thank you for contacting Avis
At this time the H3 is only available at a few selection locations
nationwide, the locations are all in the Midwest or West coast.
The closest city at this time that offers them would be Dallas.
We hope to expand the availability for the H3 soon.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Thank you for using Avis
Nancy 1314/212"

ask your dealer for a 24 hour test drive and see what they say.

My dealer was not able to get the remote start done before I picked up the H3. When they were finally ready to install it they had a rental for me from Enterprise. It was an H3. I know you're out on the island but Paramus Enterprise does have them. FYI the going rate for a rental is $125 per day. They try to discourage people renting them and beating on them. They try to reserve them for the Hummer dealers. But if someone is crazy enough to pay that, they'll be happy to take your $.

Great way to find out if you like it. We rented one in Denver for two weks back in July. We went all over the midwest put on over 5000 miles and when we were home with it in the mountains we relaized that we wanted a five speed.
Bought ours in October and love it. We went down to REI in Denver today and added a cargo box to the roof rack. Company logos coming soon.

They have 6 of them... you can only rent them if you are getting your Hummer serviced at the local dealership!
Called Avis locally... they want roughly $150 for one day with a 150 mile limit!

The H3 costs $89/day from Budget Rent-A-Car
at the airport location in Phoenix.
Some of them have a satellite TV system installed
with a very cool phased array antenna, but
apparently that satellite TV system doesn't always work.
