Wow.

Ok, obviously you don't know very much about how four wheel drive works.

I predict even more damage in the future.

It's cool you are wheeling the rig, but if you don't know how it works, you WILL find out.

swoffy....just be aware of the fact that the air intake to your engine is bascially about 3 inches from the level of the water you were in and had you gotten any deeper or a wake from your passing through the water came up higher you would have ruined your engine. Like others have said....Hummer gives you a max ford depth...if you go deeper things are going to happen.....and those things aint cheap to fix.

Its a Hummer....which means its very capable off road, but it does have its limitations...

Great vid by the way.

When you tip up your hood, look on the passenger side above the front wheel and you will see where the air intake is. Now compare that to the first video that you had on the post and you will see on the drivers side where the water level was...like i said...inches away from damage.

Just know the machine and its limits and you will be fine if you dont exceed those limits by too much.....In the immortal words of Dirty Harry...

thanks for the advice mike......

how about a do it yourself for all these fluids?

be sweet if i could change myself so i could do more often.......
i seem to get into water and mud often during the summer months

i also thought at one point i got a little bog from the motor in that water........ is it possible to take in a bit of water with no damage?

well one can do most anything oneself if they have the knowledge and tools. Lots of great people on this site with way more mechanical know how than me...ask around I am sure they'll help you out with that question.

I really dont know what the tolerance of the H2's engine is with respect to water getting into it. I would suspect that it isnt going to tolerate too much water.

After reading this thread, I'm curious. If you suspect water in the diffs, is there a way to check it for sure? Does the diff lube and the water seperate to the point you can drain the water out the bottom or is flushing the only option?
Also I see the hummer website says 20" is the max depth for a H2 in water. Is that generally what you guys limit it to? So far, all my offroading has been rocks and trails, haven't had much mud yet.
I generally don't take my H2 in for service, I want to do it myself, if possible. My service rep told me that I'm the only H2 owner he knows of that changes his own oil. I thought that was odd.

Very odd indeed. I try to do a majority of the work myself as well.

My H3 Water Story in the thread below:

In short, I had my rear diff, and the whole backend of my truck under water for over 30 minutes, much longer than you. My damage was water seeped into the gas tank solenoid valve, located on top of the tank putting it above the 24" fording depth for the H3. The water contaminated my system so I staled out and was deadlined. The oil weight in the diffs are very heavy and are designed to keep out water, I had the dealer check during my repairs and reported them to be in good condition.

I think if you had water in your truck you'd know. If you've already pushed a tank of fuel through it, I'd say that's not your problem. Go ahead and run a cleaner through it just in case.

Did you check your air filter after battle.. was is moist/damp?

I know. I had water up to the seat cushion on the passenger side of my previous Hummer, an H3, and it shorted out everything to the point where my insurance company totalled it.

Also, just for your info, if you are going to do this again:

1. hit the hill with some momentum
2. hit it a little to the left or right, then steer across it. You won't be in the holes that way.
3. Make sure you are locked and in low 4.
4. You forgot to cover the jeep with mud as you went by.
5. Why are you slumming with jeeps, anyway?
6. Don't publish your failures, only your successes. I want to see you make that hill, not puss out!

Anyway, be careful. A dead Hummer is a terrible thing....

Yea Captain you should know about too much water + hummer = death.

Also looking back now, arnt you pretty pissed about everybody calling you an AE in your sinking thread?

Yep... All I've tried to do is make sure that no one else knows the joy of a dead Hummer.

I still don't know why my H3 took on water so quickly. Maybe is was the angle is was at putting torque on the door seals. All I know I was is was in the water for 2 minutes or less while my buddy rush up, hooked up a strap and got me out.

Oh Well. I wouldn't have known the joys of a H2 if I had not killed my H3!!!
