Default Car and Driver '08 Alpha Impression

http://www.caranddriver.com/autoshow...-h3-alpha.html

Other than bad-mouthing HUMMER at the beginning, they seemed to like what the Alpha brought to the table.

Its a nice set-up, that's for sure!

Yea I think sales volume was close to expectations so far. But you never know what those dopes in Marketing were telling the execs to hope for.

Notice the 150 pound weight increase (4850 vs. 4700 advertised curb weight). Is it the V8 or the bling?

From the article:

"However nice the Alpha may be, we think it?s gonna take a lot more than one trim level to keep the dust from collecting on the hoods of Hummers currently in those fancy showrooms across the country. We?d like to see the V-8 become available on a less-luxury-laden H3 in an effort to appeal to off-road purists who care less about heated leather seats than prodigious low-end torque. And while we?re at it, a V-8 and manual combo would be nice, too. And how about a convertible for the Jeep crowd? Maybe a canvas roof? And what about that oft-rumored H3 pickup? That?s the kind of model proliferation Hummer needs if it?s serious about reclaiming and sustaining the popularity that greeted its early models. So, we hope the Alpha is exactly that: the ?alpha,? not the ?omega.? "

I couldn't agree more.

Yeah, didn't the H3 make HUMMER one of the fastest growing auto makers?

Maybe I'm gettin old but I do like the heated leather seats when wheeling in cold weather

The heated seats are also good for muscle aches after moving boulders

I too thought sales were decent. It does seem like I have seen a lot more on the road in the 2 months though. I think a lot of people stay away from 1st year production models, and then jump on it the minute a second generation is released.

Yah gotta remember something here. The Automotive press and reporters are no different then the TV and News paper Reporters. There All full of Crap and not tuned into what's real and not real.

It's all about creating a news story and making money. They never get the facts 100%. My HUMMER Dealer... NuCar HUMMER in New Castle Delaware, sells an average of 35-40 HUMMERS ..(H2-H3) New and used a month.

And has been doing so ever since HUMMER went to the Public with the H2 & H3.

Freaken A Hole News Media .. Stupid..

I had heard that the H2 sales had fallen off to a point that the plant was going to layoff 500 people.

Since the H3 hit the market, allowing more people to afford the best made truck in the world. There is no doubt Hummer is just moving forward. Personally I figured that there would be more driven people to the H3 rather than the H2, and those people who have only dreamed of owning a Hummer could now afford one.

The fact that they have moved forward with the V-8 just shows that they are selling their trucks, now some people might spend more to purchase a Hummer due to the fact the Alpha H3 has a V8 now.

As for the article at hand, it is just one writers feelings mixed with facts.

Besides, while we are Hummer owners, he may just own a Yugo.

Sorry to say, no they have not remained, and the last two months they have been down about 1200 units per month, when compared to last month. One reason might be people waiting for the rumored, not verified V8; others are frightened by higher fuel costs.
Others like me, are just peezed about no new colors for 07; except for the blinged out models. I know four who kept their 06 due to they wanted Desert Orange or the new red, but could not get it with an off-road package.
I bugged Hummer marketing, advertising and even a VP about this to no avail. I was so peezed, I actually switched with my neighbor one day and he drove my H3 into Chrysler and I drove his new 4-door Wrangler Sahara into the office.
