Terrible radio static am/fm
Has anyone come across this problem? The radio has horrible static on both AM and FM. It's so bad across most channels, sometime I actually miss what is being said or played. It seems to at times, increase when I add pressure to the gas pedal! Haven't hooked up my XM yet, so can't speak to that. There seems to be a smaller amount when my Ipod is plugged in. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Terrible radio static am/fm
Is there any way to remedy this? These trucks aren't cheap and it would seem something as easy as good reception on am/fm wouldn't be a prob. I have a fave radio show in the AM I enjoy listening to and they are not on XM (since last post - all hooked up for that). Is this an inherent issue with the truck or just some wiring glitch in some?

Re: Terrible radio static am/fm
Some people had that problem on '03 models. The longer antenna of the later models shouldn't have that problem and I can't recall ever hearing about it.
Maybe it's caused by this:

Solar Storm May Ground Aircraft, Overload Power Grids
Thursday, December 14, 2006
By Paul Wagenseil
The severe geomagnetic storm bombarding the Earth on Thursday was expected to disrupt radio, television and cell-phone communications worldwide and could force airlines to reroute passenger flights that normally fly over the North Pole.
Power-grid operators will have to make sure their systems do not overload from induced current, and satellites in close Earth orbits will need to have their positions constantly monitored as the atmosphere expands from the additional heat and frictional drag increases.

Mine's an '06, but sunspots or some such could be the cause - my personal force field has been acting up as well

Re: Terrible radio static am/fm
When did this start? This should not be a persistent problem. You have an 06 so warranty will cover it if it persists past the solar storm now ongoing. Could of had a capacitor (?) go out in the radio. I have never had that problem on my 03, unless I went through an area where the am signal was bad. Should never happen on fm.

Re: Terrible radio static am/fm
Only had the truck since last Saturday. Only yesterday did I sign up with XM. Until then tried listening to radio, only to find a lot of static. Will see what happens when "storm" is over. Thx. to all for the input.

Re: Terrible radio static am/fm
Are you experiencing the static every where or just in certain locations? You do live in a relatively sheltered location. Have you asked your dealer about it?
I'd check for a loose connection between the antenna & the radio.

Re: Terrible radio static am/fm
Dumb question...if I remove my antenna, will I get better/clearer reception with an FM Transmitter? (I dont listen to anything but XM and want to use an MP3 device for customer stuff - would use a CD, but hate removing the NAV DVD Disc.)...anyone tried this? I'll give it a shot tonight to see if it's any better.
One interesting thing I noticed is the closer to the Radio I get the FM Transmitter the clearer the sound...so if I remove the external variable...will it get even better?
