Newbie Question: 2000H1 keeps stalling
I just bought a 2000 H1 with 12,800 miles and it has been running great until the last few days. The vehicle has stalled/ quit running on me three times in the last week or so. I have had no previous problems with it and don't know what could be causing it to stall or to shut off while I am driving. Anyone with ideas or help?

Bad fuel, fuel filter plugged... Without more info you won't get much more than off the wall guesses.

Re: Newbie Question: 2000H1 keeps stalling
The weather here is actually pretty warm lately. It has been around 20 degrees Farenheit during the night and 40 degrees during the day. The vehicle started back up with no problems and no engine light came on or anything. The vehicle stalled while I was pulling out of a parking lot and then started back up and stalled again when I was pulling forward and started back up after two tries. I got on the road and the vehicle turned off while I was driving, so I pulled over and it started back up. The engine sounds good and I am not hearing any unfamiliar noises. On one other occasion the vehicle turned off when I went over a big bump, I don't know if that was a cause of anything in particular. That is all the information I have.

Re: Newbie Question: 2000H1 keeps stalling
Start by changing out the fuel filter, you may have gotten bad diesel. I'm probably going to bank on your PMD being shot, its the driver that controls the injector pump and is a VERY common failure on the H1. I wrote an article on it and how to change it out/mount it remotely a few years back. http://flashoffroad.com/Diesel/injectionpump/fsd.htm
http://flashoffroad.com/Diesel/injec...FSDInstall.htm
Take the truck in and have the codes pulled. If there are not codes and the stalling persists you can bet it the PMD. Very rarely will a PMD failure give any codes. If it is in fact bad make sure to mount it remotely, this will reduce the chances of it failing down the road. And if it does replacing it is a 15 minute job, putting it back on the injector pump is BIG $$$ and only ensures that you will have to replace it again, mounting it on the pump was a design flaw.

Re: Newbie Question: 2000H1 keeps stalling
I would second the PMD. I just got my truck out of the shop the other day and for the same thing. My truck would stall on me for no reason going down the road and then start right back up again.
I took my truck to a diesel truck shop. they were actualy the state rep for the manufacture of our injector pumps. They were able to provide a lot better service than I think the dealer would have and were cheaper.

Re: Newbie Question: 2000H1 keeps stalling
STOP! Check for back pressure at the fuel tank vent valve! Injectors have to cool and return fuel goes back to the fuel tank so make sure you clean it if you have one. #2 the fuel injector pump should have a governor ring that might be bad. Fuel shut off solenoid because of the heat might be getting stubborn so throw cold water on the top of the Injector pump the next time it stalls, if it does I would want to blame the fuel shutoff solenoid.
