I took out my TNR and installed my orignal factory stereo. Unfortunately, it's saying that I am locked out. How can this be when it was the original radio from the factory? Is there some trick to getting it unlocked? I'm sure the dealer will do it for free since it's the factory original but I want to save the trip. Any thoughts?

I don't have any experience re-installing the old radio, so I can't comment on that. They'll probably have to do the standard VIN unlock.

That's a bummer about the VSS not being connected... I guess if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself or hold a shotgun on the techs while they do the work!

VSS = Vehicle Speed Sensor. The NAV systems use this signal to help map the vehicle's progress when it is getting little or no GPS signal. It is also used to "lock out" most of the NAV functions when the vehicle is moving.

The VSS circuit was not added to the 2003 H2s stereo wiring because NAV was not available at the time. To retrofit the VSS, a wire needs to be added from the speedometer circuit to the stereo connector.

Okay Klaus, I discovered what went wrong. I hesitate to explain the situation but after all I’ve been through with my TNR adventures, you’ll appreciate the humor. As you know, I bought two units, the other for my Yukon.

Well, I grabbed the Yukon’s old radio and installed it in the Hummer! So…I spent another 3 hours today taking the damn thing apart and installing the right stereo! Works great! Ego’s a bit bruised but any chance I get to take things apart is a blessing!

BTW Klaus,

The guy who bought my TNR has a 2004 Yukon. I assume he doesn't need the separate VSS wire.

Also, would his OnStar antenna be his GPS antenna as well? Or will he need to install the GPS antenna?
