I am interested in buying a H3 when my current Mach1 Mustang is paid for.
this is going to happen in about 2 years but for now I am following the H3 to see how things work out with them
One thing that bothers is that I feel 200 hp is just not going to do it for me
Is there any talk of an engine upgrade ( I am not interested in modding for more power) I would love to see a turbo diesel option.
Any rumours ???
Thanks
Mike

You're in luck - the H3 already has 10% more horsepower than you mentioned (220) so you should be good to go!!! Seriously though, there are a bunch of people on here who know much more than me about this stuff so hopefully someone will chime in. I've seen a bunch of rumored power increases but I don't think I've seen anything "official" from GM yet. The current engine is definitely good enough for me but I certainly wouldn't turn down a bigger engine with the same (or better?) gas mileage.

245 sounds like it will get out of its way atleast I want to get a auto so the more power the better
I would like the TD option for longevity this will be my primary driver and I want to get something I can mile the crap out of.
lol the mustang is 3 years old and only has 21k on it 4k this year and 1500 miles of that was trips

The current 220 hp will get out of its own way. The underpower of the existing model is greatly exaggerated; when one considers this is an off-road capable SUV; not a blown LS1 Vette. Yes there are faster SUVs on the market, but not many that are as off-road capable from the factory, in this price range.
Curious, what is the TD option?

Don't think I've seen this on here yet...Motor Trend makes you watch some ad's if your not registered. Pics of the 245hp 3.7 I-5 in a H3 Mule testing in Death Valley, also talk of an Alpha version by 2008-9

as far as power goes, when offroading i think the h3's only real shortcoming was being down on power a bit...climbing steep hills, etc...
btw....ur not really going to notice 20hp in a 5k pound vehicle.
im going to wait till after sema and look into a s/c...

I was at Hummer Happening in Michigan and there was some "off the record" talk of a small V8.
I also had a conversation with a GM engineer and he didn't know of any specifics but he said they have a couple V8's that would fit nicely.
This would be more likely than a Turbo Deisel because deisels just are not popular in the US because of the noise, smell and the fact that deisel fuel is more expensive than gas right now.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I disagree, this this climbs like a Mt Goat with the low geared tranny and 4.56s in the axels. I think if it will stick to it then it will climb it. Only thing I have worried about so far is rolling it.

As a matter of fact, there is one V8 that will fit, but some modifications are required.
I know what engine will be released in '07, I know the engine combinations for '08, and not one is a TD diesel. Can't say what they are, but I will say many are very very close. (GM could decide to go with a TD diesel tomorrow if they wanted too.)
The extra 20 that might be in a new engine, is noticeable, but in my opinion, not enough for me to sell and purchase a new one, and does not make me sorry for not waiting.
The existing engine is fine for on and off road. How fast can you really traverse slickrock?

i mod cars as a serious hobby....
what v8 might fit? i ask because im not at all familiar with gms line except the c6's.
it would not be that big a deal to put the v8 in myself as long as i dont have to make my own ecu adapters etc....very easy if the engine pretty much drops in, hook up the ecu and away u go...
