Default Tach question

I have a 2005 SUT The tach is acting screwey. When I start it wont go below 4000 rpm. It never drops to around 2000 where it should be?

More than likely the stepper motor for the tach in the instrument cluster is bad. This is a common problem with gauges in the older H@'s. My temp gauge did the same thing a while back. The dealer will want $400 plus to replace the cluster. There are a few places on eBay that will rebuild the cluster (replace all of the motors)for about $120. The cluster is very easy to remove and send out for repair and you can still drive your truck without it. I had mine done a few months ago. Try searching on here for "instrument cluster" and also on eBay.

Here's the place on eBay that repaired my cluster. I had all of the motors replaced even though only the temp gauge was bad and its working great now. Only took about 5 days turn around.

There is another listing from Oklahoma that is cheaper than this one, but don't have any experience with him.
