Hi Guys,

I got the base model with the base radio/cd player. Manual states that I can play mp3s as well, but I only get audio CDs I burned to play, not the mp3s ("Check CD" error message).

It doesnt seem to be the CD media as i tried different ones, also CD-Rs and CD-RWs. What can I do, anyone of you successfully playing his self-burned mp3 CDs?

Thx!

I'm not much with computers and I've never burned my own cd's so I may use the wrong terminology, but I think you'll know what i'm talking about. When you burn a CD, most programs give you an option of finalizing the CD (I think that's the term). When you finalize the CD, that means you cannot record more onto the CD later. Well if you don't burn the CD like that, the CD will not work in GM radios. When you put a CD in the radio, the player looks for the beginning and the end of the Cd. If it can't find an end, it will give you an error message.
I bet that's your problem, and I hope that helped.

That's exactly it! You need to use either roxio or whatever cd buring program you are using to to finalize the CDfor playing in other CD-ROM devices

2 issues here :
1- Yes, all above are right about finalizing CD, some programs call it "end CD Session" meaning you cannot record anymore on it.

2- 2nd issue, equally important, some software record the mp3 CD as PC data format (NTFS, FAT32...ect) which may not be recognizable by MP3 players. I'm no computer wiz expert, but I ran through similar problems in the past. anyways, I used a software called RECORD NOW from VERITAS, it came free with my DVD Writer and in it there's a utility while recording MP3 CDs that says "optimize for MP3 players" and somehow it records the CD with recognizable format for all MP3 players including car MP3 players.

I tried it on my H3 player just yesterday (I too have the basic sigle CD player) and it works just fine using RECORD NOW from VERITAS.

Search for this software on the net, should be available for free on the net. I also have the same software on my IBM laptop, so I guess this software is compatible with most CD writers. And very easy to use.

Hope this helps

BillCh, if you have the basic package it does not come with MP3 capable deck unless you have ordered with MP3/CD. You should be able to tell visually by looking at the front, it should say "MP3".
Hope it helps.

I agree, the MP3 capable radio is an option, not the basic radio. Confusing in the owner's manual, but if you look at the options listed on the Hummer site, you will see the MP3 radio is a $600.00 + option.

Good information about the Veritas software but I believe the issue is that the Basic MP3 player will not play MP3 files CD's. The manual is miss-leading. I ordered the basic because I which to purchase an aftermarket Alpine, I will have it installed this weekend and let you know how it goes.
You will have to just make a lot of CD's (about 15 songs each) Sorry.

I am using VERITAS for my H3's MP3 player, as I said, it's working fine the frustrating part is I made one CD for each "genre" of music, although the CD takes 600 MB I only have 480 MB of Rock songs. I could fit more but I just didnt have enough Rock songs , hehe

WEB70, You have the 6 disk changer and it plays MP3's? mine does not. I thought that I understood from the optional accessories list, you can upgrade to the single disk MP3 or 6 disk changer, but not both? Let me know, 'cause I cant get RDS to work either!

[b] When a Cd is burned it is not burned in FAT32 (File Allocation Table) or NTFS (New Technology file system). CDI format or MP3, wave ect.. are the file types. You can not format a CD at FAT32 or NTFS. You have 2 diffrent options for the CD's File System which is ISO9660 or UDF (Universal Disk Format). Sorry, I just noticed this and wanted to help you out.

Thanks alot,

You might want to also look to ensure that you are burning mp3 files... If you are dragging and dropping the files to burn them, they will have whatever that extensions is at the end of the file. Like if you purchased an album from itunes it will be *.m4p not *.mp3... there are a bizillion different file formats for music... you will have to find some 3rd party software to convert it over if your stereo can't read that formt... wich is a real pain and one of the big downsides to buying from itunes though I think microsoft is starting to do the same thing.

Only the optional radio that is labeled on the front face with MP3, will play MP3 discs.
