As title says, if you were going to Hawaii for your honeymoon, where would you go?

Any special deals for tickets?

Better to get hotel/flight package or just hotel?

discuss

Thanks,

Mark

I've never been but my Daddy has taken wives 2 and 3 there many times. The pictures were beautiful. I have a book called "Kauai Handbook" by J.D. Bisignani. It has great info. That is the place where they filmed the waterfall for Jurassic Park. They have helicopter rides and stuff. Very mountainous and pretty.

As with anything it all depends on the timeframe that you are looking at. The deals on hotels, flights and rental cars are not too bad. I am flying my in-laws out to Hawaii in July. Paid 1600 for roundtrip tickets from Boston to Honolulu. If I was going to put them in a hotel and get a rental for two weeks, the total would have been 2600. Granted that is a basic room with queen size bed with eco rental.

There are plenty of hotels here. You have the Hilton Hawaiian village (15 hotels wrapped into a village), Marriot, Outrigger, and tons more. If you do not want to stay downtown then there is a great resort at Ko' Olina.

Attractions: There is a 45 minute hike up DiamondHead Volcano. Great view of Waikiki and Honolulu. There are a couple zoos and aquariums downtown and then there is the big Sea World type park on the backside of the island. There is the Polynesian Cultural Center. Tour 7 different island cultures and top it off with a huge buffet meal. Tons of beaches: Sunset, Pipeline, Hanama Bay. Also, there is Pearl Harbor. Tours of the Arizona Memorial, Battleship Missouri and Submarine SS Bowfin. There is plenty of snorkeling and dive sites. Water temp is great right now. There are also all of the normal bungy jumping, skydiving, parasailing, kite boarding, and surfing available.

We stayed in Kanapali Bay. Very private. Our "room" was out in the water and required a boat to get to and from.

Mark,

If you can pull it off....and if time permits, I'd try to do 2-3 islands while your there (ie Kuai, Hawaii, Maui)...each of them have something cool and unique to offer that you can pick and choose from online before you go. Depending on you & your wifes' interests, Maui has great day & night diving spots, Kuai has the 'Pacific Grand Canyon' and Oahu has Wakiki, Pearl, Diamond Head & the Punch Bowl. There's some H3 folks on this site from Hawaii...bet they can help. Bill

I'm telling you. You'll be 100% happy. When we were there Brittany Spears, and that weird ass drummer from Blink 182 the one that has a show on MTV were both there (they even show it on that show). They had a private floor so you couldnt really get near them but they had to use the same beach.

For our honeymoon we stayed at the Hilton Ali'i Tower Hotel, Honolulu, HI
link
There's a guy who's sole job is to greet you and open the door to the tower for you. Loved bed turn down sevice! We were treated like royalty! The treatment is above that of the rest of their hotels. We stayed there for our honoeymoon - and will on our major anniveraries!

The best money spent for an activity was getting advanced package tickets to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Full day of so many cool things to experience. Save your ticket because you can return the next day or two to see what you missed the first time! We went with the Ambassador Package. I wouldn't get anything less! It's really worth it. Next time we will go for the Super Ambassador Package! Get your tickets online inadvance because you will save serious cash!

The best price on fresh lei's is in Chinatown. Cool place for culture shock!

I DID go to Hawaii on my honeymoon.

We did 2 weeks, 2 islands.

Definitely rent a car, you can find a lot of neat places.

Maui was very calm and relaxing, stayed at the Renaissance Wailea:

http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/HNMRN

If you're on the island, drive the Hana Highway, it's awesome.

Second week was on the big island of Hawaii, stayed at the Hilton -

http://www.hiltonwaikoloavillage.com/index_flash.asp

Lots of kids, but the water park made up for it. They even have a freakin' tram! The volcanoes park is on this island, lots of fun as well.

Sorry can't help you on deals - we had a family friend who was a travel agent who got us ours.

There are island hopper flights like every hour, so no matter where you stay, you can check out every island.

The Napali Coast and "Jurassic Park" waterfalls on Kauai are spectacular via helicopter and well worth the $. Theres a great golfcourse at Priceville there too. I believe we stayed at a Marriott. We did a river kayaking trip there too which was fun.

Lahaina is nice over on Maui. I highly recomend doing the downhill bike trip from the Haleakala Crater. Its almost 30 miles as I recall but you only have to pedal 1/4 mile the whole trip. They have great snorkeling here.

The Big Island has great Volcano/Caldera tours and active lava flow. Skip the tour of the Macadamia Nut factory.

Skip Oahu all together - Too crowded and commercial. Pearl Harbor was nice to see but had overwhelming crowds of Asian tourists.

Bckpacked the Napali Coast on Kauai and would go there again. I loved the whole island, we had a condo for a week and spent several days in the jungle.

WE also spent a little itme on the Big Island. Perl harbor was good to see but the rest of the island made me feel like I was in metropolis. Keep in mind that Waikiki has an average of 25,000 people on that beach per day. The beaches on Kauai were sparse campared to that. We even found two different beaches where we saw no people at all. I am not sahring those two private spots but there are many.

I am trying to get back to Kauai asap to backpack some more and to have my share of rum drinks. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Man, I appreciate all the tips. I'm taking this all in and at least have an idea of what I do or don't want to do.

Everyone's tips/help is great.

Thanks,
