So I am looking for a new one - and it looks like plasma TVs are going down the tubes, only to be replaced by LCDs. Anyone have any recommendations?

I am fixing to buy one as well...I am looking at DLP TVs. You get more for your money seems like. LCDs are very nice, but pricey.

There are pros and cons to plasmas and lcds. Half of the world likes plasmas, the other half, lcds.

I'm a plasma person myself, I have a 43" pioneer hd plasma, but I also have a 26" magnavox hd lcd tv.

I just perfer the plasma, use it as my tv and computer monitor. The lcd is ok, but there is just something different about it.....


I say find what you like, and research it. Plasmas are being made better as time goes on, some lcd people will compare new lcds to the first of plasmas and such.... it's crazy.

I hear that LCDs are not as good with fast movement or motion?! I also hear that Sony is dropping plasma tech totally...

I have a really cool 13", black & white, with rabbit ears but no remote. It sucks.

Yeah, lcds aren't that great with fast movement. But like all the problems (ie: burn-in, motion, quality, life-span, viewing angles), they are being resolved as time progresses with both types.


IMO an average plasma would compare to a high end lcd. But it's all in what you look for in a TV I suppose. Like connections/inputs/style/size/etc... and what you will be using it for

and again, the newer lcd being compared to the older/lower plasma. It's pretty much a personal preference, and what suits you.

We also have a 46" plasma in our bedroom. It's a Samsung. We had Best Buy come out and wall mount it for us. I love that TV. We also have a 65" inch Mitsubishi in the living room and a 57" inch Sony in the guest room. What can I say we're TV people. I really like the plasma a lot though. I wanted a LCD but they didn't come big enough at the time for me. I think the biggest you could get at the time was 30 inches.

Arn't you worried about burning it using it as a computer screen?

No, I'm not. I use my plasma as my compter monitor (only monitor it has) quite a bit everyday, and I have not seen a burn in effect or any degrade.

Like it was said, burn-in has been significantly reduced by rotating pixels. Plus other safety features. And the fact that "anti-plasma" comparisions (biased reviews) generally compare newer lcds to older plasmas and vice versa.

It's quite hard to find a true up to date review, as the results would likely be neutral! because both types of tvs are great and have their own pros and cons, it's just prefernce.

Yeah it was like 600 bucks with the bracket and install. They cut the holes and ran everything through the walls. Little steep, but I really didn't want to have it all uneven. I always "eye-ball" everything.

The 65 in my football TV. We play 2 games on that baby at once, and you can actually tell whats going on.

I purchased a 62 inch Mitsubishi DLP back in Aug. Great TV for the money. I would highly recommend it.

It always scares me it's going to burn. They showed me a TV at Best Buy that they were running a video game off of and it was burned. They said it had been on there for a whole day. I mean you could see the burn from a mile away. I always run the black-white burn protection on it once a week.

Yeah I was quite concerned when I got my first plasma about burn-in because I read so much about it. But after a few accidents of falling asleep and having the dvd menu stay on half the night, I realized it was harder to burn than everyone said.

They have come a long way...and I'm sure you have noticed they have replaced a whole lot of regular tvs lately in public places that display the same things constantly.
