Hi there,

Has anyone person or company swapped the engine in the H2 for a similar performance diesel ?

I rather like the looks of the Hummer, but fuel costs here in NZ would make it to expensive to feed, I was hoping that an engine swap might be possible, something that has smaller capacity but similar performance.

Or is this blesphemy ? ;-)

Thanks.

I'm sailing into unchartered waters here, but wouldn't the cost of a diesel engine plus the cost of swapping it out wipe out any savings you would get in fuel costs unless you plan on keeping the vehicle for many, many years?

Maybe .. but then a small company might do the work in exchange for the rather tasty 6.8litre V8 engine .. would go rather nice in a large jet boat ;-)

Here's what you really want:

Turn Key ZZ572/620, 620 HP 572 Street/Strip Crate Engine

620 horsepower from a 572 ci crate engine. The new ZZ572/620 is built around an all new Gen VI tall deck Bow Tie cylinder block. This all new race block is filled with a forged 4340 steel 4.375 in stroke crankshaft, 4340 steel H-beam rods, and forged aluminum pistons with full floating wrist pins. Plasma moly piston rings are standard as is the screened and louvered windage tray. Hard core race parts for hard core performance and long term reliability.

This turn key engine package includes a single plane intake manifold, 850cfm Demon carburetor, HEI ignition with plugs and wires, aluminum short style water pump, harmonic balancer and a flexplate.

So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and buy the engine you have been dreaming of and put your car in the front of the pack.

Horsepower: 620 @ 5500 RPM
Torque: 650 @ 4500 RPM
Max. RPM: 6000 RPM
Compression: 9.6:1
Block: Sportsman Tall Deck Bow Tie
Bore: 4.560"
Stroke: 4.375"
Crankshaft: Forged 4340 Steel
Camshaft: Hydraulic Roller, 0.632/0.632
Intake Manifold: Aluminum Single Plane, 4150

maybe if you took that and put Fuel injection and, a Motech and a blowers, it might get your adrenaline going a little bit. if your are getting 620 NA, you should be able to pump it up to 900 - 1200 with an air pump attached.

I think it would be plenty. Check out what Jay Leno did with one of these engines:

He put one in his 1955 Buick Roadmaster Hardtop.
quote:
At GM's Arizona Proving Ground, the reborn Buick turned high 11s in the quarter-mile at over 125 mph--with four guys in it. It was hilarious.

might I suggest just doing the mild upgrade?
by going up the LQ9 345hp 6.0 from an Escalade. its easy up grade, and its got the better heads(same as LT1). then you just add a nice supercharger and presto!

probably so, but if a little if good, more must be better... it just a matter of where the money in the wallet crossed the fun factor line.

I thought that WAS the mild upgrade. I didn't select the ZZ572/720 race engine.

I almost forgot...I have an 8100(almost complete) takin out of a `01 Chevy dually. its got heads intake and complete lower end. its missing the injection and the throttle plate off the intake & EGR valve.
from what I know of it its supposed to have had a proplem using coolant, its never been tore down to investigate for it. so its all intact.

anyone interested?
