Black out
Another "stupid" question from the lazy broad, not using a search engine - but is it possible to powder coat existing chrome grill and rear light guards? My new H2 has both - it's black and the chrome is a bit much. Is it possible and where would you recommend I start looking and pricing on internet. Thanks, all.

Re: Black out
Naw, get rid of the chrome. Just sand it down rough, and then use the spray on bedliner or rustoleum paint.... I used the duplicolor bedliner on the grill and it's holding up just fine....used flat rustoleum on the bumpers, and they look better than new....

I find sanding down chrome a sin. Keep the CHROME. The Rebel

Rear light guards yes...but very few powdercoat companies will warranty powdercoat over chrome. You could strip the chrome and take them down to bare metal or take your chances with the powder over chrome.
Front grill is a big no...it's chromed plastic and I doubt the grill would hold up to the baking process for the powder. Best bet on that one is to scuff it and paint it, scuff it and use spray on bedliner or have it Line-X'ed or just buy a black one from the dealer/eBay.

Re: Black out
Thanks for the responses. Seems leaving the chrome is the way to go. Powder coating sounds a bit to risky for good results. Will check on ebay for purchase of new front grill.

Re: Black out
GO BLACK!!!!!!!
Line-X the grille, it CAN'T be powder coated(it would melt)!
Having the chrome stripped off of the marker light protectors would be costly. You might be able to trade them here for some black ones or sell them on Ebay and then buy some black ones off here or Ebay.
YES YOU CAN PC over chrome!.....You have a few options when you do also. You can have the shop lay down a light coverage and it will make it have a candy black apperance or they can do a heavy coat and cover it. You also have other options as far as gloss, semi gloss, flat, texture, hammertone, etc.

Re: Black out
Why don't you post in the calssifieds for a trade? chrome for black? I'm sure you already know you can buy color matched grilles from the dealer.

Re: Black out
Haven't decided if I am staying with the chrome or going powder. Also, haven't done any homework as to the going prices. It's a double, FYI.

Re: Black out
This idea is probably too late since you already have it, but I ordered mine with the lux package so it came with the all the extra chrome. I had the dealer change the brush guard, steps, and crossbars out for black because I thought it looked better. They also knocked some money off the total because I "downgraded". Is too late to have the dealer do it for you? There's always someone out there looking for bling.
