My local shop is now offering nitrogen to fill tires with. They claim that this is better for the tires and it keeps a more constant PSI. For $7.00 a tire it sounds like its worht it considering what I paid for the tires. Thoughts?

Don't know if there is any truth to it at all, but I have heard the same thing.

Damn, don't get a leak.

Nitrogen Instead of Air
Most of the teams remove the air from the tires and replace it with nitrogen. Compressed nitrogen contains less moisture than compressed air. When the tire heats up, moisture in the tire vaporizes and expands, causing the pressure inside the tire to increase. Even small changes in tire pressure can noticeably affect the handling of the car. By using nitrogen instead of air, the teams have more control over how much the pressure will increase when the tires heat up.

Well, the reasoning used by Nascar is because of the heat buildup during racing. I can't imagine building up enough heat for it to be an issue on the H2.

I don't know about "better for the tires" but the other statement, while true, probably doesn't matter much when concerning our tires.

I believe that changes in tire temperature/pressure are certainly something the engineers allow for in tire design. Based on articles I read years ago, although nitrogen offers some theoretical benefits, I would be willing to bet that in the real world it won't add 10 seconds to the life of your tires.

If You running the 1/4 allot and running 550Hp at the wheels and spinning all 4 I would do it.
Even if Ken is running around and doing it He better not get caught Co-pilot will tear Him a new one. The temp is going to go up and down so much off roading it is not needed. You get them hot climbing rocks and then hit some water and temp goes down. Up for while and back down. As George said the tire is designed to do what it does and it is not design to maintain a constant temp. If Your running AT's then You need it less a temp will be a constant most of the time anyway.
Listen to all You hear and throw our about 80% and You will be in the middle with most of the ideas floating around.

If I had 550 at the wheels.... well, I'd be in the mags...

But I don't...

Excuse me while I wash the dust off my truck...

Ken
Unless You been out running up and down the beach in front of Your house where did You go to get dust? I had not heard rumors of You going some place to get dirty. the word always gets out before you go play in the mud some how.
By the way can We run up and down the beach in front of Your house? If We can I want to rent a 4 wheeler or dune buggy while Im there. Shoot You will probably have that stuff if You can run on the beach. that would be cool some big fresh deep sea fish to eat and tearing up the sand. I'll be there sooner than that but, next spring fishing. Not while the Masters is on though. When i was having the real bad illness and was thinking about giving up after 3 almost 4 years a buddy got mad ,his wife is My family Doc, and said if You are here when 2006 masters is around i promise I will take you for the full week. Well I'm still here so He is friends with Scotty Cameron and He told me a few days ago he is getting it arranged for 2006. It takes like a year or 2 to get tickets unless you want to walk up and pay $10,000 for the firwst three days I'm told. I have never been but, been told it cost $5000 plus for the whole week so I told Him boy did You mess up. His wife My doc said nope it is worth every penny. There children are like My grandkids.
Well curious as to the dust though Kenny?
Co-Pilot was OK with getting the The Black Beauty dirty I guess?

Maybe I'm off on this one, but what is wrong with pure old air that you get from any gas station or repair facility? I can't remember ever in my career finding any problem with a persons vehicle because they only had air in their tires instead of nitrogen. Airplanes and Nascar have their reasons why nitrogen is needed, but for driving your personal car, I feel it is just a waste of money.

Tech, I agree with you.

Taz, I forgot the cover. The next three months is going to see the truck get nasty over and over again.
