So now that I have a winch and got to use it.
Just making sure I new how to use it today and wind it all back up, I came up with a questions or two?
I know there are synthetic ropes available that are much lighter and safer to use.
Anyone have on of these? Where did you get it? How much?
I would like to get rid of the heavy cable.
I think the roap would be easier to work with, i think.

ANy comments welcome? Anyone know of negative issues with using roap VS cable?

Definitely get synthetic line. I highly recommend MasterPull, Warn's own Synthetic line, or X-Line.

Negativity - nearly none. You have to check it for stuff like UV degredation, but if it breaks, it basically falls down. Wire rope will whiplash back to where it could cause someone to get killed.

Hope this helps!

I switched over to synthetic rope and have been smiling ever since. I was always nervous using steel cable. You have to worry about fish-hooking your hands, snarling and kinking and most importantly - snapping and the deadly consequences.

Check out RecoveryGear.com It doesn't show up on their site, so call them for pricing. I went with the 3/8"- it's rated to over 20,000lbs. I also got my recovery hook from them.

Alec, this past weekend, I used Tim's truck as ballast, and wound the truck up a hill the distance of the entire cable, and re-spooling the cable put some life back into it. We should do yours, too. Huge difference.

DRTY, I like the "no smiley" look of that bumper. Nice job.

DRTY, Looks good! Way to match up the holes on your winch gaurd to the factory grille. What winch did you go with? What's up with your headlights? Your H2 looks like a monster! I like the black grille too. NO chrome is my next step. the crap they use on the roads out here have destroyed the finish on my grille, mirrors, door handles, and my second set of factory chrome rims.

didn't post reply from Drty's.

Great job on the wimch and matching the factory lower grille holes!
I like the black grille too.

My next mod will be to get rid of all chrome. The stuff on the roads out here have destroyed the finish on my grille, door handles, mirror caps and my second set of chrome factory rims.

What's up with your headlights?
