How Much!! is off the scale

I’m thinking about getting an Xbox and DVD (I think they are one in the same) installed in my 05 H2 using head rest monitors, with wireless headphone for the kids.

It’s been a while since I looked at what is out there, so I’m looking for recommendations. Also, anybody know a good installer in the DC/VA area?

Thanks.

I have the two LCD's from the factory, and plan on putting the Xbox in for long hauls. I am not sure the brand that Hummer put in, but it was their *promo*. I will read the label next time I am in it!

I went with a much larger project:

I installed 3 Clarion monitors (1 for the back seat)
A Clarion MSS1700 Video Switcher
1 - Front Camera
1 - Side camera
1 - Rear backup camera
1 - Play station 2
1 - DVD unit (seperate)
1 - Clarion TTX1701 TV Tuner
1 - GM Nav Unit
1 - XM Radio
1 - 12 CD Changer

The switcher allows any of the monitors to view the front camera, DVD, PS2 or the TV tuner

When I go into reverse, the GMNav unit shows the reverse camera

When I turn on my right turn signal, the GM Nav unit switches to my left side camera. A 3 second timer keeps the picture on in between turn signal blinks.

I also tapped into the GM Nav unit video so I can get video there as well with the flick of a switch. I installed a Clation controller at each monitor TSC-101.

The monitors have an AV1 and an AV2 so each monitor has a seperate RCA jack for A/V that the kids can plug something else into like a handheld game of a cam corder.

I cut into the fold down center seat in the back to install the VSS-1700 controllers and the play station.

The DVD is mounted below the Rear Radio Control, in what used to ba a little storage area.

It was a 2 week project from start to finish but it is now working. I am still tweaking it to make it more user friendly but it is coming along fine.

Let me know if you need any info on this project.

Thanks
Greg

Wow. I love it. Who did the work for you, or was this DIY.

It was all myself. Some of the finer detail work like installing the monitors in the headrests, I looked on Craigslist (http://www.craigslist.com) under services and searched on installer.

I found a guy that installs alarms, TV's and such that wanted some side work for $15 an hour.

He came over and worked on the weekends installing monitors, the TV antenna, some wire pulls and helped cut in the PS2 and switcher controllers into the center console.

It was good having an expert around to help out.

Might be an idea for you.

The front camera is for the kids. Thet get hiding behind those monitors and sometimes they like to switch to the front camera to see where we are going. They seem to watch that more than play PS2. It is also the reason I think they fight over the front seat. They like to see where they are heading.

Awesome setup. How much did you end up spending all in?

Some more specific information on everything would be greatly appreciated.
Looking at something similar myself, but running XP embedded as the 'brain' of it all.

That is the specifics on most of the items I put in. I have not totalled the overall cost yet. There was a ton of butt connectors, fuse panels (3 of them), fuses, wire (About enough to circle the globe twice) and tons of RCA cables.

Let me know if you have any other questions, be gald to help.

Greg, excellent info!

A while back I was looking for a way to convert my turn signals to "tap --> on for 3 seconds --> auto-off" like recent Mercedes. Do you think your 3-seconds timer may work?

Thanks for your opinion!
