I just got through putting an AirForce One system on and was not happy with the product at all. But it did bring up an interesting dilemma.......you change out the oem air box you run a big risk of sucking water when stream crossing it would seem...
Am I thinking right??
Anyone successfully changed out the stock air box and still played in the water???
Anyone with a snorkel??

It is one of those situations where you can have one or the other. I also have the AirForce One and really like it. However if I am going to any serious off roading I just switch it out. The factory air box was designed with water in mind someone will make a better flowing filter for the factory airbox soon. The only one right now is the Airaid filter.

You might want to do a search for some threads on the factory's position on exceeding the design limits of the H2. If the water ever gets deep enough for a snorkle you are going to have far more problems(electronics, EVAP canister vent, etc) than what the snorkle will prevent.

As far as the AirForce one kit, the instructions were way off with respect to the H2 install.......just "generic" instructions that were for a 6.0 engine and some of my components were not the best quality.......

I recently installed the airaid intake. I haven't noticed any difference whatsoever other than my wallet being 200 dollars lighter.

I'm surpised. I really believe my airaid has helped performance. Especially, 1st gear ,last half of rpms before shift point. Of course now I'm driving around like a madman, winding out after every stop!!

I ordered the Airaid and had it in hand.
Then I was told NOT to install it by LPE. Two things happen:
1. When wheeling you can suck in water, and
2. The engine will suck in hot air which effects performance in a negative way.
I think I will believe them on this issue.

I agree with #1 but not as much on #2 since the product comes with a heat shield. Not the best one in the world but it does include a shield.

Last night, after some hard street driving, I open the hood and felt the airaid filter and the air tube around the MAS. Both were pretty hot feeling. This makes me wonder if there is too much hot air being sucked in.
I always thought these intake systems were advertised as "cold air intakes".

Xtreme flow uses the stock box...just changes the filter.

K&N doesn't, Albie is right. I called them about a week ago. They're "working on it". No ETA.
All I can say to all the open box filter guys here is: if you plan to really use your H2 as designed (i.e., off-roading) and you encounter water crossings or such, it is nearly guaranteed you are going to suck water with these open air box filter systems.
I have had my H2 in almost mirror depth mud and frame depth in water and both times my engine compartment was completely full of both as I drove through it. In fact, my mud trip literally encased my engine compartment with mud, clogged every one of my radiators and packed the underside of the "Vortec" electronic cover. The H2 has very little protection from direct water flow inside the engine compartment. All the factory pieces are designed to prevent water intakes.
GM has made it painfully clear, no coverage. If yours is just a street rig (or beauty queen as my buddy calls them), go for it.

This may all be rumor but I overheard some guys talking the other day about a wrap that goes around the filter, whether it be K&N, the Air Force One, or the Airaid that will keep water out and only let air in.. Not sure of the specs of this, but I know that the guys at NASA have something that is similar. I like right near NASA so I hear these guys in restaurants talking about all kinds of stuff and what they are working on, and it appears as if they have a super polymer material that will do this.. If there is anything out there that I do not know about or have just been blind not to see it then forgive me... Just telling you what I heard....
