Oil Light:
"The light goes on when you turn your key to ON or
START. It goes off once you start your engine. That’s a
check to be sure the light works. If it doesn’t come
on, be sure to have it fixed so it will be there to warn you if something goes wrong. When the light comes on and stays on, it means that oil isn’t flowing through your engine properly. You could be low on oil and you might have some other system problem."

Oil change is via the DIC:
Located under: "DIC Warnings and Messages"
"CHANGE OIL
This message will be displayed when the oil needs to be changed. Check the oil in your vehicle as soon as possible and have your vehicle serviced by your GM dealer. See Engine Oil on page 5-13 and Scheduled Maintenance on page 6-4 for more information. Press and release the reset stem to acknowledge the message and clear it from the display."

I have less than 200 miles on the hummer so far so I am sure it si nto ready to change yet. How does the On-Star work on checking your oil life? I have never had on star before, how does it work, is it worth the cost, what do you guys think?

Onstar is free for one-year (safe and sound package). If you sign up for the diagnostic email, they program your BCM in your H3 to send a complete diagnostic download on that same day, each month. If the vehicle is off, the BCM will send the next time it is started.
Onstar then emails you a message with miles, diagnostic information (if any) oil life usage, your phone number, number of minutes left, XM radio ID if you have an XM radio. They also relay your exact location to Homeland Security and NSA, so GW knows what you are doing.
It's free and a nice feature.
