Default XM antenna...can it be changed?

Since installing my GOBI rack, the reception on the XM gets a little thin when I'm in the mountains, or for that matter under any trees. Can they be switched for a larger one, or is there even such an item. Thanks for any help.

Jeff

Default Re: XM antenna...can it be changed?

you can wsitch the antenna that the xm receiver uses, they are readily available. hwever you cant, or shouldnt revove the current xm antenna because that is also the onstar cellular communication antenna. That antenna also has a hole under it in the metal so you cant really move it unless you patch up the hole which will look crappy.

so what you can do is install another xm antenna wherever you like, unplug the current xm antenna from the receiver (but dont touch the actual antenna) and plug in the new antenna in its place.

In case you need to know the xm tuner is over the glove box, and under the airbag.between the two. you can get to it if you remove teh center console (where the radio is) and look to the left over the glove box. DONT touch any of the airbag wires.

hope this helps.
