2006 HUMMER H3 Stinger-Mac Aftermarket Air Intake System
This message pertains to the 2006 HUMMER H3. Stinger-Mac is offering an aftermarket open air box engine intake system, product number 10033201. The design of the air filter box has the potential to allow water ingestion if the driver is fording deep water. In addition, the oil impregnated filter element provided with this kit could impart an oil film on the mass air flow sensor causing driveability issues or turning the "Service Engine Soon" light on. Installation of this product is not recommended and any resulting complications should not be covered by the new vehicle warranty.

Do you think this would apply to the K&N intake kit also?

Can't speak for water fording, but any filter requiring an oil such as K&N can mess up the MAF. Those wires inside the MAF are as thin as hair, and just the slightest bit of oil will result in an inaccurate signal to the PCM, thus causing some possible driveability problems.
I would say the biggest problem is not the initial install of the filter, but when the person cleans the filter and applies the oil via the spray can. Many have the opinion if some is good, more is better, and I have seen some K&Ns that actually dripped.
Besides, it is a proven fact that these types of filters allow more dirt into the engine.

God this happens more than most people think. I have seen soooo many spray paint thier filters with oil and start to stick them on.
