I found a good place to relocate your onstar unit. This will allow you to place a flip out monitor in the place where the onstar is currently located.

What I've been toying about with is to replace the OEM mirror with an Onstar mirror (i.e. the Gentex one, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33699&item=2419268 590)

Call me a boob, but where exactly did you put the Onstar headend?

Roy.

Looks great...now how do I move the thing....details??? Actually I'd like to get rid of it entirely, but am afraid of other connected vehicle functions failing.

I would opt for the mirror location. All the others to me look like afterthoughts. The one in the glovebox takes away from a small space to begin with and all the other locations look like crap. Do it right and get the mirror replacement!

hey Hum2 did you manage to remove the onstar box. I would also like to do this. But I don't find the correct instructions for it.

Well I've read this page but this doesn't tell we were I can find the onstar box. I suspect it's behind the onstar plate.

Also I would like to find somewere a easy way to remove the onstar. Perhaps with a manual or somehing.

I also need the microphone so I need to know also were I can find the wire for this one.

If I had my druthers, I would rather have the OnStar mirror mount. It makes perfect sense that the mirror is the better location for it. But I am not going to go though lots of rewiring to move this minor annoyance.

The annoyance? ah yeah, well, my dogs will generally sit up in the front seat area when I don't have a passenger with me (like my wife). So they like to get comfortable and sometimes place their head in the area between the gear shifter and the OnStar button. A few times now I'd be driving down the road and the "OnStar Ready" voice comes on. Seems that the dog’s nose easily presses that darn button.

Oh yeah, that brings up another annoyance. The other location that the dogs will rest their head, when in the front seat, is to put their head on the passenger door arm rest. Exactly where the door lock button is. So, what I did was take a small rectangular piece of black plastic, exactly the outside size and shape of the door lock button, and I glued it there. It has no top, it is just a small 4-sided ridge surrounding the buttons. So a person can easily press the buttons to lock or unlock the doors. However the dogs head will not activate the button. Works for me.
