Default P0053, now P0171 and P0174

I had the P0053 code, which is HO2S Heater Resistance (Bank 1, Sensor 1).
I bought 2 O2 sensors from New Global Automotive (http://www.ebay.com/itm/170884100778...4.m1497.l2649), and replaced 1 from each side (Bank 1 and Bank 2, although Bank 2 didn't point any errors, I went ahead and replaced it anyway).
I cleaned up the error with an OBD2 machine, but after about 10min I got the engine light again. I read them, and the error I get now is P0171 and P0174 (which are System Too Lean (Bank 1) and System Too Lean (Bank 2).

Before switching the sensors the 171 and 174 never showed up.

I don't know if these errors are coming up because the sensors are not OEM, or if they are showing up because the sensors are now reading the information correctly.

You could have leaking intake gaskets due to these codes or your fuel pressure is too low due to an intermittent fuel pump failure that just so happened to occur after you changed the O2's. Or your old O2's were not capable of giving correct AFR's.

My advice to you would be to reset your codes and install the old O2's back in and see if the problem follows. If it doesnt then the means two things

1. your new O2's could be faulty...

2. Your new O2's are actually correct and are capable of reading AFR's (where as your old O2's could not) to the point that you are indeed lean and need to further address either a vacuum leak after your MAF or your fuel pressure is low.

The o2 heater code you had would have had nothing to do with exhaust gas readings, code sets for a faulty o2 heater only. If you replaced both pre cat sensors and are now getting lean codes i would suspect the new sensors. Put the old one back in bank 2 and clear codes. If you set a lean code on bank 1 then you have to blame the new sensors

I replaced them because on another thread, a guy told me that error (P0053) was the one he was getting, and he solved it by replacing the o2 sensors.

http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...625#post547625

I will try what you said, and put the old one in bank2 and see if I only get the lean code on bank 1.

If that happens, I will put the old sensors back in, and should get the P0053 again. If that happens, what should I do to solve the o2 heater code?

Then i would buy a factory sensor, more money i know but should fix the problem. Check wiring to sensor and make sure its not rubbed through somewhere causing the problem

If it were wiring the old codes would have followed over to the new sensors as well. Whatever you do if you get lean codes that follow back to your old O2's dont ignore the fact that you "could " be lean because the 6.0's have common issues with vacuum leaks on the intake gasket.

So lets see..

I had error P0053 which indicates bad sensor/wiring in bank 1. The other day I got a blinking engine light when I was parking, so I just turned the engine off and on, and it went away, I left the truck in the parking space and only picked it up the next day with no problems. I think I should say this because it might help with something.
I figured it might have to do with the bad sensor, so I didn't make much of it (although now I now it means engine misfire, but I don't know if it could be related).

The 2 sensors arrived, and I switched them on both banks.

Right after switching them, and starting the engine, about 2 miles after I get the P0171 and P0174. I cleared the errors several times now, just to see if they come up frequently, and they do.
I never got those errors before, but I know they are common on the H2's. (Also I should point out, that I just got this H2, I only made about 150miles on it, but it came with the P0053 error already on, and not any others).

The thing is, if I never got an error on bank 2 before, and now I'm getting the P0174 which is a read from bank 2, could it be that the old sensor on bank 2 was completely dead (or disconnected) and didn't pick up anything, and these new sensors are good and are indeed correct on the vacuum leaks?

I just don't want to go ahead and purchase an oem sensor, wait 2 weeks for it to arrive, and see it didn't solve anything.
I don't know with what I should start on this matter...

Put your old sensors back on and get back to us with the results. It's too bad you cant datalog cause I could to tell you right away what your issue is.

I agree for sure. But if the old sensors were not working they "should" have set p1133 p1153 codes possibly for insufficient switching, not always the case though. Def need to install old sensors and see what happens

I'm gonna do even better.
I have another H2, and I'm going to put it's sensors on this one, and see what codes come up. If the 171 and 174 come up, then the new sensors are good, if no codes come up, than the sensors I bought are junk.

I've got an OBD2 machine, Autel MS509, I don't know if that can datalog. It can view freeze frame data and other stuff.. Hope I'm not saying something stupid. LOL

Ok, I just switched the sensors from an H2 that was showing no errors.
I put those sensors, drove for 2 minutes, and the 171 and 174 came up. I erased them, and after a 20min drive they came up again.

So, I'm guessing the new sensors I bought, were reading correctly after all, and there is no problem with them.

I checked for broken bolts on the intakes, but there is none.
I will do a test (cover the exhaust) to check for vacuum leaks, if I don't spot anything, I will switch the MAF from another H2, and check if the errors come up again.

Is there anything you think I'm overlooking, or something?

Seems to be a vacuum leak, on the driver's side intake gasket.
