The rated fording depth is 30 in. At 30 inches or below there is NO chance of damaging any components on your truck. There are a lot of critical electrical components on the top of your engine, which are not water proof. You can go beyond the 30 inch mark, but I would not reccomend submerging the entire hood. The extended snorkels are not marketed to allow you to ford higher depths, but as a way to decrease injesting water into your engine and ruining it. If suck any water down a diesel engine you will most likely be buying a new engine. Your doors should keep most of the water out of you truck provided they are properly adjusted and the weather stripping is still good. The HUMMER H1 as a general rule is supposed to let water in the cab (hence the drain plugs in the floor). A HUMMER is far to heavy to float, the water entering the cab prevents any bouyancy from occuring which allows the truck sink down to the botom so the truck can get traction.
