Today it happened, the H2 lost a fight to a penny size rock traveling very fast. Instantly a 12" crack appeared on the windshield, luckily it is front of the rear view mirror. Before I spend the money to get the windshield replaced I have read several threads stating this happens alot. Is this a common occurance? Should I wait until it gets worse?

im on windshield 3 in 18 months, the near verticle windshield makes it susceptable to cracks....best i can recommend is not paying more then $400 for a windshield, the dealer will try to get you fro $600 plus

Not sure what area you're in, but I pay $300 every time this happens. The stealership wants close to $700 for one. Close to Denver, I can PM you the info.

Man, I hate to bring this up again, but what's wrong with calling the insurance co? I've had cracks repaired for free and the windshield is replaced at a discount on my deductable. And no, I have not seen a rate increase. I recently had 3 windshields repaired, but one needed replacing afterward because it looked like crap. Total cost was only a couple hundred.

You need a new insurance co. I received a discount against my deductable for the glass. The fact is, H2's suffer windshield damage because of their angle. We have to live with that.

Yeah, this is common. I'm on my 3rd windshield. Insurance covers mine so I'm not worried about it but during the winter, rocks fly!

I'm surprised there hasn't been a rate increase. Each glass place has said that they see a lot of H2s and they keep the glass in stock.

Glass is covered 100% here in Mass. I do at least 2 windsheilds a year. I'm on the highway everyday so I get hit with rocks all the time.

I guess it due to the upright angle of the glass. I go through windsheilds all the time on my jeep.

For those of you that repeatedly use your insurance for windshield replacement, BE CAREFUL. NO insurance carrier will tolerate repeated claims of this nature. They're not in the business to lose money and although many times slow to react when they do it's with a vengence. Just an FYI.

Ric, i'm assuming you have $0 deductible on comp? My state farm agent said "no way...you have $500 deductible." What a wonderful surprise

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Safelite is crap. They manufacture their own glass and its even thinner than the OEM. Better get their number on speed dial. Call Harmon Glass. They are a national chain that only uses OEM glass.
