GMID / Supplier Pricing
Well I am seriously considering trading up to an 08. I am thinking about waiting a while to hopefully get a lower interest rate, but still not 100% sure how I am going to handle that.
Anyways, I have a few questions. How would I go about getting a GMID or whatever method is best to get the cheapest price? Assuming I get this or someone helps me out with it, how it is used, and how do you deal with the dealer when using this method.
Finally, if I am able to go that route, does the dealer typically try to screw you on the trade in so that they can make their money back? Would it be better to try to sell my current H2 on my own?
Also, anyone know if any rebates are in effect in any certain states? I am looking for a 08 SUT, probably white, with ebony interior... not sure I see the point for the lux model, because it doesnt appear to come with anything that I couldnt add for much cheaper if I ever decided to.... sooo looks like MSRP should be about 56k
Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: GMID / Supplier Pricing
Well you cant get nav without the lux package. I suggest negotiating your trade in price before you tell them you have GMID pricing. Also GM pays the dealer a kickback when a customer uses GMID.

Re: GMID / Supplier Pricing
i love it when this comes up....the "kick-back" more or less breaks the dealer even as the discounted prices are usually below the dealer invoice price....trade is what its worth, if you try to be clever and hide it till the end it does not change how much its worth....all that happens is the dealer lets you know that you get the actual cash value instead of an allowance...the program is voluntary for the dealer and if you try to decieve or trick him he will opt not to participate....we do not lose money to sell cars, especially to folks who are not up front with everything....

Re: GMID / Supplier Pricing
The dealer loses money on selling a new car with GMID?

Re: GMID / Supplier Pricing
well aint that a .......guess you got me there.....when the slick customer comes in with some of the advice from the forum and negotiates their best deal and then "springs" the GMID on the dealer, all that happened was they wasted time....or "get your best deal and then bring in the trade"..another waste of time...trades are worth what they are worth...dealers sometimes give an allowance which is the same as a discount off the price...so when the price is already set, there is no disount so, lets see, how do i say this.....oh yeah, the trade is worth what the trade is worth...there may be some shady salesmen out there, but i promise for every lie a salesman tells, the customer tells 3.....sorry, i know it hurts, but fact is fact....

Re: GMID / Supplier Pricing
Well I personally have been in situations where the dealer would inflate the price of my trade in, in the attempt to make me feel happier because he "couldn't" discount the price of the car.
If this situation were to present itself, or the opposite, then I think it would be in my best interest to first negotiate the price of my car, so I know what it was worth in a totally unbiased way... then let them know I planned to use GMID, IF they were to allow me to even use it.
But just my 2cents

ok i will try it another way...if you get 3,000 off the sticker and are happy with your negotiation, and then pull out your GMID certificate, you do not get the 3,000 off of that, YOU GET WHAT IS PRINTED ON THE INVOICE listed as the SUPPLIER price....so hiding the gmid or the trade or the bad credit or the my dad is a salesman or anything else DOES NOT DO ANYTHING FOR YOU......

Re: GMID / Supplier Pricing
I think you are totally missing my point. I am not talking about getting any money off of sticker. I am trying to make sure that the dealer ISN'T playing with ANY of the numbers whether it be on my car or the new car... In past car dealings, the value of my trade, according to the dealer, seems to fluctuate worse than Britney Spears personalities.... so I don't think my questions and simple asking for advice is so far fetched.
SO I want to have them value my trade before any negotiations are done on the car.
I think that is very simple and easy to understand. Not sure why this is upsetting you so much?!
P.S. I have excellent credit and my daddy isn't a salesman... no need for the attitude man, we are/were simply chatting in here till you got all upset. Simply looking for the best deal possible and trying to get advice, not criticism.

Re: GMID / Supplier Pricing
GMID is a set sell price, no messing around with it. Just research your trade first on kbb.com, edmunds.com, nada.com . Know the value of your trade before going in and usually you get what you want give or take 50 bucks....of course it's easier if you don't have a trade, but not every one wants to mess with every tom , dick, and harry coming over to test drive your rig and ask stupid questions.
Even though everyone thinks the dealer is going to F you, if you have your numbers preset, you can walk away a happy camper.
Also get pre-approved loan rate from your credit union, they are at like 4.9% here in california, the dealer may match it or have something better, so take that into account aswell........

Re: GMID / Supplier Pricing
i am not upset, i am just trying to tell you that there are no negotiations on the gmid...you will actually have to sign a paper that says the dealer showed you the invoice and the gmid price and that it is the same price you are paying....everyone thinks that kbb and nada set the price for trade values...well they dont, they are merely guides....what sets the price is what people are buying....look it up on kbb, tell the dealer you are gmid (this is a voluntary program for the dealers. you may waste time by hiding it, only to find out they do not participate) ask for the acv of your car and proceed...again, i am not mad, upset or angry, just telling you how it works....
