Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
Yesterday was the big day to install my Magna Charger! I had a couple bumps in road but by 6am I was ready to start it up......here's the problem....It barely runs. It's sounds real bad like knocking and like it's running on 2 cylinders. I checked all my wire connections, injectors etc. I was thinking I had an injector plugged into the wrong cylinder?????
The thing that really stinks is it's Sunday and there is no Tech Service......So I'm hoping maybe you all may be able to HELP!!!!
Thanks,
Mike
BTW - I bought my SC used and it was off an 03.....I got everything from magnasun that I needed, but come to find out the intake gasket wasn't even close to fitting....the gasket on the SC intake was perfect but can you guys/gals w/03's confirm the gaskets are single inserts?

Re: Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
Did you put in the fuel pump required for 03's?
Does it idle decent? Reprogram for the blower?
Sounds like you had a late night...I've done some stupid **** being tired and not thinking right. Sometimes its better to have a second pair of eyes looking to catch your oversites.
Did you do any other mods at the same time? headers, etc...

Re: Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
Thanks Mud! You couldn't be more right about a late night and a struggling brain!
I got a bew intank fuel pump & fuel rail regulator for my 2005 from Magnusun along with a Superchips programmer specific to my Vin. The program seemed to take without any failure on the handheld...???
Truck is completely stock. 2005 w/33k
The truck runs really bad...like 1 - 2 cylinders, it pops and knocks and dies. I re-ran the program and had the same results. I then checked all the electrical connections, which seem fine but I keep thinking I may have screwed up the injector sequence. they look fine.....I just don't know.
I'm sooo open to suggestions and I'm going back to work on it again soon and will keep checking this often if you think of anything........If for any reason I figure it out I'll post details.
I really appreciate the help!

Re: Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
Did you use the programmer from the 03 that came with the SC? You may need the programmer for the 05? Check your fuel rail pressure as well?

It's Fixed!!!!!!!
Well it's fixed and it's Awsome!!!!!! The problem was the old fuel that was in the rail and it had some air in there as well. I cleared the valve 5 - 6 times and it was alot better...I let it run and it burned off the old fuel and it cleared out completely!!!!! Thanks again for the advice...just reading a couple of replys got me thinking simple again and fixed it w/out much effort!
Thanks Again!!

It took me about 17 hours......I took my time and if I did it again, it would go alot faster. My garage has low ceilings and the truck barely fit so this added some time with the fuel tank removal. I was alone for most of it....called a buddy to help me install the unit as the weight of it makes it a 2 person job.
It is awesome and I can't actually believe it's finished....looking forward to driving to work tomorrow!!
There is alot of info on it and Magnuson has been a great company to deal with.

Re: Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
Congrats on getting it running. You'll find headers will wake that up also. (spend the money and get longtubes....shorties have caused us GRIEF)
Did you do the intercooler? If not, you'll need to.
You'll also need a tranny cooler also.
HTH's... and welcome to the forum.

Thanks Mark....I'm real happy with the supercharger - it really rounds the truck out and makes it drive like a "light truck".....and the Whine.......awesome!
I've had headers in alot of vehicles and all except my Bronco have been a PITA - so I think(for now)I'll keep it stock.
I did install the intercooler and I was thinking about the tranny cooler....on the list!!! Thanks for mentioning that.....Did you have any tranny issues w/your S/C? I ordered the Corvette Servo and Trans Go shift kit from Nelson and will probably just do the Servo for now....not real excited to put the shift kit in my daily driver, but Nelson assured me it is mild. My Bronco's Shift kit makes my teeth chatter....I really don't like that!!!!
Thanks for the welcome - these forums are really helpful to a do-it-yourselfer like me!!!!

Re: Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
GREAT NEWS!
Glad you worked it out. I had a problem with mine when I bought a new kit and had to return the in line fuel pump and everthing was fine. I have had the kit on one of mine for about 5 years and I still love it. I agree with the other readers get a tranny cooler while you dont have problems. I think the heat distorts surfaces in the tranny and probally doesn't do seals much justice either, so prevention is the way to go. The servo from the vette is a nice one too. ENJOY IT!

Re: Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
Thanks H2R - That was a great tip w/the fuel pressure and was really what made the light go on in my thick head!!!
I've been paying alot of attention to my gauges, especially the trans temp gauge, and while it's not very hot out, it seems to stay around 150*. What do you think is too high, and what temp does yours stay on average.
BTW - I checked the Fuel Pressure yesterday and it was 64psi....a little rich, but I think I'd rather it rich than lean - any opinions?
Here's some pics of it done!
Thanks again!

Re: Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
I was very fortunate with my trans. When I sold my H2, I had a little over 100K and no problems... it shifted very hard and never gave me a problem except it did tend to get hot until I got an add'l cooler.
I installed a separate cooler under the truck with a separate fan.
That pretty well fixed the problem. I just had to watch hills while pulling trailers, etc.

Re: Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
I do alot of towing as well......what was the problem w/hills...did it get alot hotter? Did the tranny cooler fix that as well? I've read different things about the tow/haul button and SC's.......are there problems there too? Sorry for question attack, just trying to understand this whole thing.
Thanks,
Mike

No man, no problem at all. Anyone here is more than happy to help.
My problem was hills. Towing a 14' enclosed trailer with 2 harleys or 2 4 wheelers in it would make the temp creep to the 250-260 range. A few times, it buried the needle.
A GOOD cooler with fan will help this but not totally cure it. (granted, I'm also talking about 90+ degree weather)
I even went so far as blocking off the radiator tranny lines so the fluid didn't have to go through the hot radiator.
Not quite sure what the complete cure is but then again, who knows, maybe it was me. I do know this.... if I have to redo a trans, I'm going with the 4LE80 trans, not the stock 60.

Re: Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
Transmission fluid begins breaking down in tempatures above 175 from what I experienced and read. The last time I was out in my non lifted hummer going over sand dunes I decided to try without airing down the tires and The truck took it much harder. The trans tempature went well above 200 so when I got back I replaced the fluid and filter. The truck will go into a shut down mode if the tempature is tooo high but thats too late. The trans fluid is routed thru the radiator and convection takes place so when the engine is hot the trans fluid temp will go up too. I just re-routed the line into a seperate cooler and it will do a better job. There is a word of caution if your living in extreme cold climates I would not recommend this. In this case I would route it from the radiator out line to the external cooler back to the trans.
Fuel rail pressure is going to go up some what because of the change in pumps and regulator. If you want to improve this more go to nelson performance on the web he will give you come computer mods that will give you more. I will stick with the set up I got since I just wanted it for the passing and occasional wind up. LEAN IS DANGEROUS FOR A SUPERCHARGED ENGINE IT WILL CAUSE DETONATION and will eat away at the pistons and valves.

Re: Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
My transmission runs around 150 most times in the winter. It runs 180 on long highway trips and will be closer to 190 on hot summer days for long highway trips. The book says 180 to 210 is normal operating range and the tech at the dealer said that's normal. The only time I've seen it over 200 was on a hot day trailer towing and it is the only time I ever used the towing button on the dash and that cooled it back to around 190.

Re: Help!!! I've got Supercharger Problems...
Great Info H2R! Just to clarify....at 64 PSi I'm running rich, which is ok(except for extra fuel consumption) .....correct? I will also run 93 Octain b/c it's only a .02 difference from 91 Octain.
I live in Ma. and while I don't think it's extreme cold, it gets cold enough in the winter so the cooler from the out of the radiator would probably work the best....thanks again!
BTW- are you running any gauges and if so which ones...I'm thinking a boost/vacuum and a intake temp gauge would be good to have...any thoughts
