Problems - "All Sales" fuel door

Just received an All Sales H2 fuel door from Race and Street inc. The problems started
immediately as I tried to fit the H2's plastic fuel housing onto the All Sales door assembly. This design attempts to secure the door to the plastic housing by catching the thin edge of the housing with a number of counter sunk screws, a dumb idea at best. After closely analyzing the design it became obvious the problem was just plain bad engineering. To further aggravate the problem the fuel door stop bracket was improperly contoured to match the shape of the plastic housing not allowing it to fit as required. Also preventing the housing from fitting into the fuel door’s channel were two screws securing the fuel door tensioner, the screw heads were too tall and had to be ground down. After two hours of re-engineering, filing and the application of some GE Silicon glue to properly secure the fuel door to the plastic housing, it was mounted and now looks good and functions works well.

The problem with this product is not only poor engineering but poor execution. If the fuel door was installed as per the instructions it would have fallen off during installation or at best, after the first bump in the road.

If you are handy and don’t mind fixing other peoples blunders you can have a very nice looking fuel door for $89 or just skip it.

I got the SMA fuel door on sale on eBay and it works and looks great. 3 minute install. Sometimes you get what you pay for. I bought the Hadley Big Bully Air Horn same as the Real Wheels unit for the H2 sans the "H2" bracket for almost half the price. I spent an entire weekend engineering a bracket to make it fit. I should have spent the extra $ and saved a weekend.

I have been here a long time and I have never heard of the "All Sales H2 fuel door from Race and Street inc." I have seen all the other fuel doors (both locking and no lock) and I have participated in the lively discussion of fuel doors (remember those wonderful threads Hummer Man!). Can you share a link or picture of your selection?

I also have an All Sales fuel door. I haven't had any problems with it. I bought it from Moss Motors, it's on page 10 of their cataloge or try

I had the same problem with my first fuel door.

It also scratched my paint around the area where it makes contact because it does not clamp to the truck but instead the plastic flange which can move around a bit.

I went with the Pro-fit fuel door. It IS pricey but well worth the money. I really think it would have made a nice option offered by Hummer.

I still have the locking door if anyone wants it...satin chrome...$50.00 plus shipping. I got it off E-Bay from Race-and-Street. Had it on for about two weeks tops!

Unfortunatly Race and Street does not tell you the name of the fuel door on the web page. They have four of them listed that sound good when you read them but are not very good when you try to install them. The one I ordered was the brushed aluminum with a lock. It is very usable and works well once you modify it and glue it to the plastic flange. I also ordered a full size cargo mat at $60 which was of good quality and fits very well. Sometimes you have to take a chance.

I have checked on the fuel door sold through Moss Motors and it does appear to be the All Sales door that I had the problems with, just much more expensive.
