Can Any GM dealer service the H3?

My nearest dealer is about 50 miles away. It is always a pain to drop the car off for service, even when the dealer is five miles from my workplace. Doing a 100 mile roundtrip and another 100 mile pickup for service is out of the question. Can my Chevy dealer service an H3? I am happy to do my own service as long as GM will sell a shop manual.

I have been wondering about this to.

GM should clear this up.... for at least basic mechanical stuff and all shared mechanicals with the Colorado.

If GM would service Hummers at all Chevy/GM dealers that would be great and be good for marketing!!

as far as I know only hummer dealers can get hummer parts.

Actually, it's not a good idea at all. The income of an auto business is based in large part to the service and repair department. These Hummer dealers were required to build new freestanding dealerships to provide for their customers and it would kill those dealers to allow customers to easily go anywhere to get routine service and warranty work done. The service techs are sent off and trained for the Hummer vehicles specifically also.

They are trying to build a brand so they won't be washing it out by undermining the dealerships.

I've heard many times that only Hummer Dealerships service Hummers. However, if you look in your owner's manual it basically states something like "In an emergency (such as check engine light or something) you can take your Hummer to any GM Dealer. So I'm guessing if your on a road trip and have a problem and hit the closest dealer they won't send you away but if you want an oil change or minor repair they will refer you to the closest Hummer Dealer. (Hey at least it is more time behind the wheel of your H3!)

On the HUMMER site it says that only the H2 can be fixed at a HUMMER dealer, I dont know if this is true for the H3 though.

A large dealership network is important especially for vehicle owners that are traveling and out in the boonies fequently.

Another good point is that at least staying with a Hummer Dealership the mechanics are only seeing 3 vehicles H1, H2 and H3 and should be good a trouble shoooting and repair.

I agree with what everyone says; however, any GM dealers connected to GM WINS can submit a warranty claim on any GM vehicle and this includes Hummers. Exceptions are Saturn and Saab, which maintain their own unique warranty systems, and are not part of the GM WINS system.
However, a Saturn can be serviced at a GM dealer and a GM vehicle can be serviced at a Saturn dealer, but the claim has to be filed manually, not via the GM WINS system. (Information excluded GM of Canada)

Wow. That's a deal breaker. My wife and I have been saving since last year to purchase a H3 (and are within a few months of buying one), but with the nearest Hummer dealerships 99 miles away (Chattanooga), 120 miles away (Nashville), and 90 miles away (Birmingham), there's no way I can randomly take off from work to ever get the H3 serviced. VERY inconvenient.

The Hummer website said my closest dealership for service is my local GMC dealer (who doesn't sell Hummers). I also read on this board a month or so back that all GM dealers are now required to carry "basic" parts to fix any GM-owned brand vehicle (Saab, Cadillac, Hummer, etc.). Don't know how true that is, but it was posted here.

Guess it's time to start looking at another (easier-to-service and easier-to-acquire) vehicle.

if they are anything like most GMs I have had you wont need to bring them in at all.Any lube shop can change your oil.

I have purchased many new GM vehicles and have had very few dealership service needs. In fact, My wifes 330Ci BMW has had more trips to the dealership than all my GM purchases combined. New GM vehicles in order followed by service visits 1986 Camaro (2), 1991 Cavalier (0), 1993 S10 (1), 1995 Monte Carlo (0), 1997 Grand Prix (0), 2001 Silverado (0)...2003 BMW 330Ci (7).

I'm afraid if something "bad" goes wrong with it (like used to go wrong with my Regal all the time) I'll be forced with loading it onto a flatbed wrecker and having it trucked 100+ miles to the nearest Hummer dealership.

I don't mind driving 100 miles - or even to Dallas - to BUY a H3. Driving that distance for service, however, is insane, IMO.

Any Mr. Goodwrench will look at any GM vehicle.

As far a fixing it,,,that is a diff story.

If it is a part (common to the Colorado) or service(oil,tire,belt,air) they have or can get they will fix it. 80% of most issues

If it is a Hummer specific part or service you will have to go to a Hummer dealer. 20% of most issues.

If it is a warranty issue and the vehicle is disabled at another GM dealer, will GM pay to get it to the Hummer dealer regardless of the distance?

Just a thought, call the Hummer help desk and ask them if they have any GAP providers near where you live. (A GAP provider is authorized to service the vehicle. Saturn in their early years had GAP providers in many states where there were no Saturn Retailers.)

In Nashville, Crest is the authorized Hummer dealer; however, Andrews Cadillac had an agreement set up with the Kelly (Chattanooga) to selling Hummers in Brentwood, TN, and I believe they also serviced them. Other dealers might have similar agreements.

Also, if it is non-running, Hummer should pay to have to flat bedded to the nearest authorized dealer.

There are some items on the Hummer that require Hummer specific special tools.

I bet as the H3 sales take off, they will buld more Hummer dealerships as I think the H3 will greatly out sell the H2 by a wide margen and the H4 will sell well as it comes on line in the future.
