Default Fuel Filter Replacement

I'm approaching 60K on my 03 H2 and need to replace the Fuel Filter. Can't find it. Can anyone provide location and any instructions? I believe its removal requires a special tool. Suggestions on where to purchase the tool and filter as well?

Thanks!

WCH

I would hate for anyone to try the search feature and try to expound upon that.

I thought I gave you a copy!?!?!??!???

Pure custom from a little oriental kid who is a complete genius. He also has designed a submarine H2 for when global warming floods the earth.

I read the other thread, and in regard to fuel pressure, just bleed it off via the shrader valve under the hood on the fuel line. Place a rag over the valve, and press the needle valve and a small amount of fuel will bleed into the rag.

Now, I have to ask why you want to change it. You will know when a filter is starting to clog. If you idle ok, accelerate slightly ok, but start to bog down when accelerating heavily, will tell you your filter is starting to plug up.
Back in the old days, when in-ground tanks were metal and rusted, and fuel tanks in the vehicle were metal and rusted, fuel filters plugged. However, in the past thirty years, in-ground fuel tanks have been fiberglass, fuel tanks on the vehicle are plastic, and the chances of getting dirty fuel is very slight.
In fact, in most vehicle, there is no recommended time to change the filter. It is serviced only if required.
Just some observations...

Nice info F5fstop.

The idiotic morons at my dealership "recommend" changing the fuel filter every 15,000 miles. I thought that seemed excessive. When I questioned the service advisor about he said something to the tune of "well, it's really dusty out here in Colorado". Seriously.

I might also add that in later H2s, the inline fuel filter was removed.
In the 2003, the maintenance schedule does show a 30K replacment, but there is a large sock style strainer sitting on the fuel pump pick up tube in the tank; that strains any large sediments before the inline filter.
However, my rule of thumb has always been if you floor it and the engine bogs down (due to lack of fuel flow through the filter), but idles ok, check the easist part to replace; the filter...even if it could be something else such as the actual fuel pump. But if you floor the vehicle and there is no hesitation, then the filter is flowing fuel at required volume.
